New ZT looks pretty disappointing

while y'all are whining abd complaining about speedsafe, materials, and pricepoints...I'm over here enjoying the knife.

You can value shop and compare to death...the only thing KAI did wrong is have too much value in their current lineup. Lets get real...Its a ZT for $148. Its build tougher than a link or dividend, and has a much better bladeshape IMHO. The action is lightning fast with a solid "THWACK" on lockup. Dont like speedsafe?? Move on and quit your bitchin...we don't need 8 pages of the same BS....Just buy something else and post on that, why all the hate?!?
The ergonomics of the knife look at a lot better with that CF scale.

It wasn't t possible to open to open the 0562 s I handled at the ZT table at Blade six years ago. And the company reps talking with me didn t show me how to use the blade stops to open the knives, and actually said at that time that I couldn't open the 0562 that way. I ve never handled another one.

I echo your experience of not being able to open ZT 0562 (also 0562cf) with the bladestop. I say it out of the two 0562's and three 0562cf that I have owned (still own two as of now). I was actually able to open only one of them that way but that knife had a very light detent and could be folded with slight spine tapping (was able to fix the issue by bending the lockbar but that is another story). If G Gideons is telling the truth (of being able to open his two out of three 0562s with the bladestop WITH EASE), he probably got very sloppy detent on those or maybe he got two fake ZT 0562s ;)

The one on ZT 0561 (and also 0560) functions as both thumbstud (for opening the knife) and bladestop.

FWIW...I never had a problem opening my 0562 with the studs, and its not a sloppy detent. Technique, dexterity, and slim fingers I guess.... I get that guys with meaty paws may have a different experience...but if thats truly an issue a slight modification to the showside would allow the extra space needed to do this with ease, and would not impact closing detent, action, or lockup. What you guys have been complaining about for 2+ pages now is getting silly. That knife was designed to be a flipper...if you dont like flippers, dont buy it....but its not a design or manufacturing flaw.

this new zt actually looks great, i think i will be getting the blackwash one next paycheck. that being said, i think the best ZTs were the ken onion ones. the zt 0200 is a masterpiece, zt should not have discontinued it. i wish i had picked up a few more of them when they were in production. i wish zt and kershaw would bring back ken onion.

I think it is worth noting, the 0357 and 0308 are supposed to be updated iterations of the 0350 and 0301, both beloved Ken Onion designs. I think it was a huge mistake to not have Ken Onion design the 0357 and 0308 and the resulting product clearly shows this.

I am not a fan of ZT. Their designs don't look much fit for me. Though they worked with some good designers but still I don't find interest.

I don't think these are so much updates as they are replacements. I also think that these are both fantastic in that they pulled from their heritage while also updating some things.

These will find a place in my collection for sure. I think its sad that the majority here havent even held one let alone owned one, yet are giving expert advice on them. Give them a try...or not. I really dont care either way because i will be and thats all that I really care about. They will be great users for sure.

For those of you that actually put your money where your mouth is, let us know how you like them. Dont be afraid to not try them because some internet guys said they were not good or whatever excuse it is they are using today.

Now, go cut something!

Cheers,

Justin

I have been seeing a lot of 300's and 301's for sale. Should I sell mine and get a 308? I kinda like my 301 even with the assisted opening.

I personally like both. I think if you like the 030x you will like the 0308.

Best,

Justin

I’d hold onto it honestly. I regret selling my 0301 yrs back and I think you’d be as well. Just hold out and get a 0308 when you can.

dont sell it, its discontinued and will only get harder to find. its an incredible knife, the 308 is new and there will be plenty of time to get one.

skyhorse skyhorse I can see that, but I don’t really agree with it. The 0357 is right there with the 0350 and that was never put into a situation where it was thought of as a high end Kershaw. It was an entry level ZT and continues to be, and the same goes for the 0357...it is an entry level ZT for anyone wanting to try out the brand. And I’m pretty sure you’re just trying to point out the specifics of the convo here skyhorse skyhorse , those aren’t your feelings particularly. And if they are, no worries homie!

I will say that if the consensus among some is that there’s a blurred line between high end Kershaw and low end ZT then that in itself is awesome because for sooooo many years people were saying Kershaw is a disappointment, only chinese garbage, etc and here we are hearing some say Kershaw is stepping up their game and producing stuff on ZT level quality.

But as been said already, not your thing, not your thing. If some would rather buy a Bareknuckle or whatever instead, you’re still supporting KAI USA so have at it. I think they’re all good, from the Shuffle to the 0999 so whatever your flavor, enjoy!

The 0350 I owned was in no way nicer built than either of the bareknuckles I've had, either in fitment, quality, machining work, or otherwise. I would say it was comparable to my M390 Link as well.

It's great that Kershaw is stepping up their game, but I'd love for some concrete explanations as to how ZTs entry level knives are different from the US made Kershaw's, because I struggle to see a difference aside from the price point and label. I'd bet that blades from both brands in equivalent steels are heat treated in the same facility, to the same specifications, in equally large batches.

This one does a good job of comparing the build qualities and spec diferences:

This is also a well discussed video, highlighting and contrastingthe complaints and comparisons:

At least these guys have the knives in hand and can offer relevant talking points and feedback....the speculation and assumptions based on pics alone is just silly. Agree with the opinions or not...make informed arguments gentlemen.

I gotta be honest here; I'm not sure what it is you thought someone would get from those videos. The first video's main point is that it isn't a Kershaw because it has thicker liners... Having the knife in hand means nothing if you don't say anything of value.
