Thanks

Pickaroon, I like it as well but will still go on using the original, sappie. Its handled from a split out piece of oak 'cause it's all I had on hand at the time, heavy but still holding up, showing no signs of being overly taxed.

It stops the stem rolling off the end on to the ground before it gets lifted into place and dogged there, because then I'd have to use it to get it back up.

I just the other day made a good rescue haul and I can now add this Warren to my collection here...

I also brough home this interesting example of a cant dog, I just started to soak it a bit to loosen the pick from the socket. Rock solid rust fusion.
From what I could make out, the hook now has a collar to make up for the stress crack at one flange of the bolt mount at the socket.

My Bangor/Rafting style, far left, came to me with a broken haft I attempted to make a knob end. I imagined it once as long as the 5' example JB has. Mine is not stamped.

I will need to get some pics to repost of the saw mill cant hook(s).

It’s not a cant hook per say.

My pickaroons/ or “pickles” fit through the ring if need be to move logs.

I could be wrong but I think your hook on a ring is only missing its haft for leverage. I think that you may have one if the earlier design cant dogs...I think it had a different name but still the same use.

You may have the swing dingle.

No pics till tomorrow but so far I have an Oshkosh peavey that has been welded on a maple branch handle, a no-name peavey head as of yet unhung, a P pickaroon (it counts, right?), and a shield M log carrier. Does anyone know of a company that had that logo? Also, I'm trying to get a cant hook that has BELL SYSTEMS branded on the handle (and another one I forgot). Wish me luck!
edit: Group pic tomorrow, individual pics tonight except for one I can't find photos of. Targets first.

That's a peavey.:p Seriously though, a peavey/cant hook is nice for moving logs in the woods and a pickaroon is king of the wood pile. Too bad long peavey handles are so expensive. After using a 5-5.5 foot total length peavey, there's no going over to short handles.
