Lower branches got hung up on the top of the Christmas tree stand leaving the trunk hovering over the center spike at the base of the stand. No bueno. So..... HDFK to the rescue faster than my wife could grab the sawzall.
Took receipt of my FK2! I got burlap micarta and terotuf scales but am really, really, really liking the terotuf right now; really not sure if the burlap scales will go back on... I also might need to find a set of terotuf scales for the HDFK (if they even exist...)
Anyways, I brought both my HDFK and FK2 backpacking in Algonquin Park (Ontario) last weekend. We were planning to make a fire but it was snowing heavily non-stop so we lost the motivation to find/process dry wood. In the last week, the area we were in received around 2ft of snow.
This was our shelter yesterday morning before packing up.
The grip of the new scales was extremely good - even when wet, frozen, and covered in snow. I really hope the texture stays this way (or will it buff out the way micarta does over time?).
Our own resident encyclopedia official parted with that well loved and beautiful piece. Hope to put at least another 3 years of use on it before retiring it to the safe to admire. Assuming I can keep it from the lady's hands. She's already eyeballing it...
