What is that written on your knife?

The pre D3V version of the FK aka FK1 aka OGFK were hardened at a slightly higher number on the Rockwell scale. Even Nathan's "plain" 3V predating the Delta-HT protocol was heat treated at levels above and beyond the industry standard HT for 3V steel.

Sometimes you can look at this "kid" Nathan and he comes across so unassuming and you look at his videos and he's so calm in his manner of speech which can put you to sleep, but don't get fooled by his very easy and calm demeanor; I reckon that he's really a super assassin when changes characters by stepping into a phone booth (metaphorically speaking, there are no more phone booths... Poor Clark Kent!).

But jest aside, I absolutely luv and adore that OGFK and can't stop going on and on and on about it. Yeah I know the UFK and the FK2 improved on the handle scales and did away with the mini pry bar but to this date, anyone who sees the OGFK in my hands, gushes about how darn sexy and gorgeous the knife looks and asks about the maker, price, availability, etc. After I saw Eric's post with the OGFK and then your post, it made me think a very plausible scenario, what if I went bare arse broke (not a very pretty sight) and had to choose one CPK... Hmm! Man, I'd be crying my eyes out to having to let go of the Shiv, BD, K18, HDFK, yada, yada... But I reckon that all that I will ever need in case of totally-broke-ass-case-living-under-the-bridge sorta situation, I will take the OGFK, a hatchet and a small Silky saw. If I get released into a forest, I will probably steal a cheap machete from another hobo and hide it down my pants!

Thank you so much for the great post and confirmation. The sincerity is undeniable..and I'm starting to understand. Absolutely love the FK1. Was my choice as first on specs/looks alone over the 2. This one is my second and had to try the 2. The FK2 is outstanding. Much different in hand than looks along suggest. 2 feels slightly more nimble, lighter in the ass. With both in your had..you can absolutely feel the exploration of philosophy towards the DEK's, for sure.

Both outstanding, love the differences on both for what they are and their purpose. Glad I dont have to choose. It would be the FK1 if I did. Prefer the blade profile and the slightly flatter scales. And it's always the same word when anyone sees/comments, my buddy, this very night,(knows nothing from knives) as I was handing him the knife said "nice", when he took and unsheathed it, looked at me, smiled and his very next word was "sexy"..haha..And it absolutely is

Yup, it says Nathan... 62.0 is the HRC, see my above post ;)

Very happy about this. I wished they'd run a few of my favorite steels a few points higher. DV3 is a new favorite, so..my instinct was right..62.0! WooHoo :D

Tha is again, Casinostocks Casinostocks . Most appreciated :)

You are welcome :)

BTW in case you are not already aware, the hard and thin version of the FK2 is running at a slightly higher HRC, so there is also that one.

Thanks again.

Thought hard thin was a thinner stock as well as thinner grind ?..ran a little harder? I think I had that wrong. Thought were .160+/-, closer to DEK stock..

Didnt think I needed a hard thin. I do. damn

The stock thickness is the same, the primary grind is slightly thinner making it thinner behind the edge. The primary grind starts just ever so slightly higher not really that discernible unless you have them both side by side and scrutinize them very carefully (there are some pics posted). Nathan nicknamed that harder / thinner version, “bad idea”.

*not good idea..haha. I like it. Typically like/prefer higher grind. Yes, I want one.

Well, I layed off the last sales when they were offered. I'm guessing sold out? I'll ask Jo if there's any left.

Was just about ready to cool it, couple of unexpected came up I couldn't pass. Looks like another one I need.

Thanks? o_O:D again Casinostocks Casinostocks

Correction: “bad idea” was the actual nickname ;) but I think that Jo can still help you wi to one at the next sale :)

I remember when you picked that one up. I had held off because it wasn’t Delta 3V. I remember it sat for a bit. IIRC you picked it up because yo wanted it to “stay in the family”. Still kick myself sometimes. Those scales! Not something I would normally like but for some reason I do.
