We are tenatively scheduling an HI convention to be held in Reno on March 22 and 23.

If all goes as planned Pala will be here so we will have Pala, Lama Jigme, the HI Chaplain (more on that later), assistant Chaplain Samten Lama who also serves in shipping and receiving dept., Chokpa, the HI mascot, and yours truly and almost certainly but not guaranteed, Bando master Dr. Duvon Winborne who will give us a demonstration.

We need a dozen or so to make it happen so shoot your best shot. I don't think we have to worry about upper limit but you never know. But, we'll find a way.

Activities (show and tell and big BS sessions usually) will be held either at the Titanic II (low turnout) or at a meeting room at either Peppermill or Atlantis (high turnout).

Reno airport is 10 minute taxi ride from Atlantis or Peppermill -- 5 or 6 bucks. Atlantis and Peppermill are both a ten minute walk from Titanic II. Rooms at either casino should be available for about $40 if you book ahead of time. I might be able to get a better deal for you if you want me to try since I'm a regular at both casinos. Let me know.

Sign on here and we'll keep this thread alive until it happens or doesn't.

Past conventions indicate a great time with great people can be expected.

Don't know if I can do it yet, but I'm going to start researching the possibility. :)

Same Here.:D

Good Lord willin and the creeks don't rise or the security checkers don't impound me.:)

I'd love to go. It sounds like this Convention is going to be great.

Hey Uncle....anyway to hold it on the weekend of the 22nd? This is the same weekend as The Big Reno Show at the Hilton which I will be attending with the better half...

Here's to wishing away about 2576 miles of highway adventures...:D

Sweet, I didn't know about the show at the Hilton (or anything else for that matter) but it might be a better idea to have the HI convention in conjuction with the show. If nobody cares we can make it the weekend of the 22nd rather than last weekend.

Comments? Any more suggestions?

I was hopeing to take off from work the 29th because it's my Birthday so if I can get a few days off I could drive out. I have a few other things planed for that week so I wouldn't be able to do it the 22nd.:( I would love to go again but don't hesatate to change dates if it works out better for folks on the 22nd. I hope it works out for everybody, it will be a ton of fun!!!!:)

We'll play it by ear, Chris. You might want to check Frontier -- straight shot from Denver to Reno and sometimes you can get very good fares. Fly Friday and return Sunday.

Don't know how big the Reno Show is (or what it is, for that matter), but wouldn't that complicate getting hotel rooms?

Hey Uncle my wife and I will be there if you have it on the weekend of the show..as long as NO snow is on the road in the Truckee pass...but put 2 down....oh ya gotta eat at the Atlantis we have eaten there many times and know the food is all you can eat gooood...here is a link for those that do not know what the show at Hiton ishttp://www.bigrenoshow.com/ if you like guns/knives and stuff that goes with those then you will like it...Strider knives sometimes is there, Barry Dawson with his niece Lynn also have a table....I am like a one eye dog in a meat market when I go to that show....

Ah...

I was thinking in terms of thousands of folks flocking to Reno for whatever type of show it was. That shouldn't complicate things any, and would be an added draw.

Either weekend should work for me as long as I don't have any pressing school stuff.

Anyone from Colorado or Utah want to carpool over to Reno? Would help with fual and lodging. Have relatives in Reno that we could possibly stay with.:)

Talked to my wife about it. She likes the idea of spending the weekend up there. So I can MakeIT:D. Hopefully there will not be too much snow going over.

How about Venessa or some girls from Nepal?:p:D

How does Dutch Oven food sound? I can bring some Dutch Ovens if I come. My Specialities* are Roast Beef and Potatos, BBQ'd chicken, and an assortment of Chicken stews.:) I also know this really good Honey Lemon recipe.

  • Roast Beef: Roast Beef, Potatos, carrots and Onions. Cooked till the Roast is nice and tender.
  • BBQ'd Chicken: Chicken cooked in BBQ sauce along with other herbs, spices and veggies.
  • Chicken stew: The chicken cooked to perfection with lots of good ingredients (Rice, Carrots, Onions, potatos, corn, and others).
