Schrade 152OT Sharpfinger

EAZdfuX.jpg

Pretty standard I assume, but it's unused and unsharpened and I like it.

I know, I know. I've got a long story about the love hate of this model for me, but maybe another time. Would love a user to carry as it makes so much sense to me these days.

Codger,
Could you post a photo of your anniversary Sharp Finger, with the wood handle.

Thank you Old Mate,
I don't think there is too many of them about...Ken
Bit by bit I have been repopulating my photos in this thread, some lost by the program change and some by the shut down of my former photo host tinypic.com. The best pictures of this issue I have archived may well be your own? Black background? Unfortunately I didn't tag them with the source when I copied them to my photo archive.

This issue definitely is not common today. The scales are a replay of those seen earlier on the U.S. Tobacco Skoal Copenhagen event knives. And of course don't forget the companion anniversary knife, the dual shield version of the base 152OT knife. It is also uncommon. As production figures for 2003-2004 did not appear in the archived records, we can only guess at the quantities of each produced whether they made it to market pre-closing or from inventory sold during the liquidation.

FINALLY got a custom pouch style left-handed sheath for my Sharpfinger:

Thanks to Dakota Creek Forge out of Blaine Washington, I finally have the knife/sheath combo I've always wanted!

(I also posted because Codger mentioned he liked seeing custom sheaths for the Sharpfinger, and IMO this is definitely a beautiful example. I'm sure as hell pleased to own it.)

Over the years several friends have wondered if there were stock left-handed sheaths for Sharpfingers, but I have never seen one. Here is an image flip of the three main types of original right handed sheaths. I would think that an accomplished sheath maker could make one like these.

You're a mind reader too? ;)

1983 SFO for K-Mart Sports Center, reversed art on the left handle, reversed tang stamp on the left blade. SC205.

Here is the standard production SC502 for 1983.

Incidentally, you see this was the first use of the pouch style sheath.

Learning something new every day!
That 1983 K-Mart order wasn't renewed so the blades left over from that run were remaindered to SMKW. They sold them with blank scales and with several custom prints of their own such as these two, "Bird Hunter" and "Duck Hunter". Seems like there were one or two more hunting themes as well.

Here is one I remember now. "Coon Hunter". These were all circa 1987.

And another possible but unverified at this point. "Carolina Whitetail".

Here is an example of the 1988 Scrimshaw issue 502SC. A recent get though incomplete. Seller or estate lost the box, paper and paired it with an incorrect sheath. I'll straighten it out myself in time. As you see, it is the Giorgianni art of a pheasant flushing on a fencerow and is meant to be viewed vertical.

Here is the correct sheath and box shown in a file photo.

The previous year, 1987 502SC polar bear, was the last year these were sold in the flocked presentation box. Even that issue changed to the blue and white fold down box sometime mid-run.

The flocked presentation box was used only for sfo limited editions after 1987. The TV88 came in one for True Value Hardware. And the Low production local Ellenville Wawarsing 4th of July knife is another.

The pouch sheath appeared in 1983 and was discontinued in 1989 except for use on an sfo or two. From there to the end of production all that came with sheaths came with the handle retainer strap sheath.

I don't know why Schrade discontinued the pouch sheath, as that design is the best for general use/EDC. I can imagine that hunters would want a sheath with a retaining strap to prevent loss while crouching/crawling, but for everyday work I've found the pouch design is best and am curious why they didn't just sell both designs side-by-side.

Was it a sales issue, or did the market change? Maybe Codger can enlighten us.
