Share your French traditional/regional pocket knives

Your Le Thiers a few posts back is a real looker too Gary:thumbup: I really like the file work and overall lines of that knife.

I got his one a few years ago.

The workmanship is excellent and even though it doesn't lock open, it requires a good deal of force to close it.

Nice stag I'd have to break down and snag one of those if I'd ever see one!

I've been staring at a Cognet Capucin for a while. Anyone have one? Comments?

Also, anyone care to compare a nontron to opinel? I am very interested in a nontron but I can't quite understand why it should cost seven times more.

I find myself in the same boat. Now, after experiencing the wonderfulness of the Resolza, I find myself wondering about the Capucin in bull horn. As for the Nontron, I don't know why they should be so much mor than the Opinel, except for the fact that Opinel has one of the most modern automated knife factories aside from Victorinox. So I imagine the slower older handworked Nontron comes more costly. But the Nontron small cog knife is a pretty thing.

Carl.

I`d like to make you aware of the Claude Dozorme Capucien. It`s around half of what the Cognet costs. I`ve been eying one for a week or 2 now.

edit: It was Claude Dozorme not Perceval. Sorry.

That's a beautiful Chambriard. Is that the midsize Companion model?

Here's a couple of older gardening knives.

Thank you - I don't remember which model it was , I dug out the receipt and all it says is "French Le Thiers pocket folding knife Stag Horn handle"
But the blade is about 3.5 " and it's about 4.75 closed.

Sounds like Le Compagnon to me, a big un. My stag is the smaller Le Compact about 3.75"/9.5cm the stag mellows nicely with use.

S-K those are some rustic beauties, any dates/more info please?

Thanks, Will

Thanks Will. These are quite recent acquisitions. I need to do some research and will let you know if I find anything further.

Well, I inquired to Mr Chambriard a while back about some stag versions, said it would be a while, but lemme tell you, the wait was worth it !
These arrived today, I changed the box to include all 4 of the Chambriards seen here;

Thanks guys, they are really nice knives, I had figured I might still try to sell the Ebony and Curly Birch but after getting the stag, I think it makes for a nice collection and here I am, NOT a collector, haha but for some reason the Chambriards as well as the Opinel's seem to be something that I am a collector of !

The one knife I lack is the larger Trappeur from Chambriard, it'll be a while but I think I'll see if I can get one of those to round this out, as I don't drink wine, I'd not get the ones with the cork screws, just the normal large folder, and those have a mid lock too, should be nice!

Stefan did an excellent review of that folder seen here;

The photos in the previous post were just quickly taken, I'll post up better when I have the chance to get some shot ;)

Three recently made French penknives with brass scales. The scenes depicted are reminiscent of those found on some older French and German knives.
