Flipping? Go to the Traditional forums. There is some astronomical flipping going on! This kind of thing happens on almost all the runs of GEC folders. Why is it okay to do it there and not here?

What makes you think that it is ok in the Traditionals subs - for sale and discussion alike? It gets called out with increasing regularity and most GEC related discussion threads carry that taint - it's almost impossible to just talk about the knives anymore.

My apologies for contributing to the thread muck-up but I needed to respond to this.

I’ve only recently explored the Reddit world a little bit. They actually have explicit rules against flipping. And they allow comments from the community in sales threads that help check it…somewhat I guess. Food for thought on possible changes here.

So I appreciate Boru leaving this open. This isn’t even the worst one today. There was one @$400 earlier.

Can we get a mod in here to clean this thing up?

Pricing police and pile-ons don't belong

RULE #5

Do not post in a person's thread unless you have an implicit interest in buying the item. Posts like, "Nice knife!", "Why is the price so high/low?", "I wish I had funds" are not allowed. This means absolutely no commentary or feedback in someone's sales thread. Seriously, if you stomp on someone's ad, your account can and will be locked. The only exception to this is in the Knife Makers Market areas (if the maker/craftsman requests and welcomes feedback). Save questions and offers for email rather than cluttering the thread.

Regarding all the “price gouging bs” I’ve constantly seen on the forum. Anyone who complains about anyone making a little profit or a lot of profit is then never allowed for the rest of their lives to make any profit on anything they buy and sell. How much profit is too much… who decides how much is too much? Anyone who thinks making a large profit is “price gouging” can never again sell their house for a large profit, they have to list it either exactly for what they paid or just a little bit more than they paid(hey….your just helping out your community and if you sell for any profit then you’re (by your own ridiculous standards) a bad person, greedy, bottom dweller, pos!! Also, anything else for that matter, no matter how rare or collectible and item becomes, you have to sell it exactly for what you paid or just a little profit, sound good? Collectible cars, shall I go down that road…. there are lots of collector car communities/groups and forums out there(not only old cars but brand new ones that have EXTREME DEMAND), are you all going to say with a straight face that they should sell almost exactly for what they paid or just a little tiny profit, OF COURSE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free market capitalism, free market supply and demand is what makes the world turn. An example to consider the difference between making profit and price gouging is when their is major hurricane with massive power outages and someone buys all the available generators and then doubles or triples the prices, this is price gouging and taking advantage of people in a desperate situation, I actually would say is “bad” person taking advantage of people in need. These are knives we are talking about, KNIVES!!!!

If you don’t want it, don’t buy it… if it’s overpriced too much then it won’t sell and the price will come down. Heck, you can even ignore that person since you’re so offended that someone is trying make too much profit. It’s ignorant, extremely short sighted and hypocritical to negatively judge people because they turn a profit, large or small. Are you wanting me to believe that the same people who are upset that someone turned a profit have never made a profit on anything ever???? Even more concerning is the sentiment that someone is a “good guy” because they sold an item exactly for what they paid (or a little more to cover shipping, LMAO) even though they could have easily made a profit based on demand. This is a stupid guy, not a good guy. Furthermore, someone who makes too much profit that appears to some to be “gouging” is a “bad guy” is ignorant and dangerous. It’s fundamentally dangerous to vilify people making profit. Making a profit is smart, not bad, greedy or evil. Makes my stomach turn that people accuse others as bad actors if they make a profit. I’m sure these same people have NEVER sold anything for a profit. I give a strong hand clap to someone who figured out a way to make a small profit and a STANDING OVATION to anyone who figured out how to make a large profit.

So please tell me since I’m new the community. How much profit on a knife makes you greedy, a bad person, scammer, loser, etc? Is it $20, $50, $100, $200? I want to know how little profit makes me a good person and accepted into the community. Seriously, how much??????????????Can someone start a poll?

🙄

It’s not as much about the “profits” as it is about the fact that this guy literally bought those just to make a profit. A limited run. This isn’t profit over time. But I understand your point.

Its all around us, electronics etc.... I'm sure there are threads here palavering about the evils vs virtues of flipping.
I know a guy that bought a tract of land, closed on it and then walked into the next room at the attorneys office, sold the same tract, and walked out with 75k profit 15 minutes later.
I've been on both ends of flipping knives and I'm fine with it.
Here, there are some that see a 'code of honor" in buying and selling here. much like a group of pals, or knife community that respects one another.
I can see both sides, and would stick with its a free economy so buy and sell as pleases you, and leave what doesn't alone.

It’s not the profit, it’s the intent. Buying and deciding you don’t like it is one thing, same for something building value over time, but buying for the purpose of immediately gouging your peers in a social forum is pretty sleezy. I’ve made profits in the past, but if I’ve bought a second as a back up and then decided it’s not that important I typically pass it on while only adding the cost of shipping and fees with minimal if any profit. If you want to be cold and calculated about it by all means you do you. I chose to make a reasonable public offer so as to hopefully save someone really wanting that knife from grossly overpaying.

It’s $20 dollars. $200 dollars if you buy a pirate membership because ok to gouge if you are a pirate

For those of you that think you know why I bought this knife apparently you’re mind readers.. I bought this for a fellow member that decided he didn’t want it. As a matter of fact as luck would have it I ended up with several. A friend, a knife buddy, that couldnt be there for the drop. I even offered to hold it for him.

If you don’t like the price don’t buy it. Look on eBay if you think I’m out of line. And I’m not talking about the listing price. Search the sold items.

And for those of you socialists that think you should decide what’s “fair” and how much profit someone should make, instead of the market place, and think that profit is a sin, go join the socialist party if you haven’t already.

But im glad the moderators have let this free discussion of ideas go on. But where was he when the initial comments not relevant to this sale and were nothing but opinions were made? Maybe my bad for quoting rules. I guess I’m the first person on blade forum to make a profit and now we all need dealer memberships which I’d be more than willing to pay.

But you spyderco snobs are victims of your own demise. They offer these “exclusive” and “limited run” knives that are nothing but handle and hardware transplants of the same old mediocre knives to create frenzy and you all fall victim.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

BTW……SOLD for $235

That gets complicated too, because people that "really want a knife" are usually the ones that are fine paying scalper fees. I've had to pony up more than I wanted to for a few knives I've missed out on, but I understand the supply/demand side, because I wouldn't have a chance to buy it at all if it was being sold for just a few dollars over MSRP, someone would have already snatched it up within seconds of it being listed. Too often you see people grabbing up limited runs off forum members just to turn around and then flip the knives for a profit themselves. It's a bit of a catch 22, but both sides of this argument have a point. Unfortunately you cannot please everyone, and everyone has a differing opinion on what constitutes a "fair" price, hence why the rules are in place to not discuss/bash peoples listed prices on their for sale threads.

Sold for $235. I haven't received mine yet I only ordered one and with tax, shipping and handling it cost me $238. Great deal. I have overpaid and underpaid plenty with no regrets as I take full responsibility for my actions. I careless your motive for selling, just be honest in your description of the knife.

Who would of thunk it

This isn't eBay, so who cares.

There's that political bullshit again, if you want to discuss politics there's a sub forum specifically dedicated to that topic.
But where was he when the initial comments not relevant to this sale and were nothing but opinions were made?
I got involved when you posted the following.
I'm definitely flipping, if you're interested or have an offer please pm as per instructions.
But you spyderco snobs are victims of your own demise. They offer these “exclusive” and “limited run” knives that are nothing but handle and hardware transplants of the same old mediocre knives to create frenzy and you all fall victim.
Spyderco snobs, mediocre knives, fall victim... I look forward to your next for sale thread.

I'm sorry, did I miss a rules change that allows people to stomp on other's for sale threads?

I don't like flippers, scalpers or whatever either, but that doesn't absolve the rest of you from following the rules. If you feel he's being unethical or dishonest, make a note never to do business with him and move on. W&C exists for a reason.
