Survival Set? What do you attach to your sheath?

yeah effer with out a doubt, i mean i can get the esse kit for 185 bucks with a you break we fix it warranty, (lol which means a lot to a dumb grunt like me cause us infantry boys are notorious for using a knife for everything but cutting) i mean it has a good amount of the same shit and for about 30 bucks more (on top of the 185) you can have everything and then some that the extreme kit has. blah now i am heart broke lol as i love the look of that extreme knife and really the kit is well put together just not that well put together lol

thanks for finding atleast a american store holding it

lol their website sucks they need to get their shit together lol :)

only thing i could find was out of utah and it didn't help much, either way imo i would rather support american custom knife makers who offer the same product at a better price and with a amazing warranty and then do the rest myself.

ps you can actually buy the survival kit they have for a very decent price, the only thing worth a bit more is the custom sheath which wow isn't worth that much. again i like the main post and plan on ordering and building both esse rat kit and the izula neck kit for still less money than the extreme single kit lol

Think I've posted this before, hope its ok to repeat...

Several on our SAR Team have this sort of pouch-on-the-sheath setup:

Certainly understand those who don't like the extra weight on their belts, but we spend so much time with our gear on that I guess we just get numb :o ...

Cool thread; lots of great ideas here!

my pack/bag will always carry what I feel are necessary items for said planned outing, but it's comforting for me to know that if push came to shove that I will always have some bare essentials w/ my knife- if I never have to use them- that's just fine by me

much like bear spray in grizzly country :D

a different knife? ;)

Just kidding sorry..if this is a wilderness survival set up..consider priorities
Fire - a fire steel and some pre-fab tinder
shelter- a space blanket or contractor bad and some cordage
water, a steri straw, or a foil pan for boiling or a collapsible metal cup if you can find one
Rescue, A whistle, and an led
navigation, a small compass

I have a pretty basic setup of a bic disposeable lighter and a little tube with some cotton wool in it.
honestly, the chances of me having the knife on me in an emergency, without my proper survival kit, are pretty slim. the gear is there more for convinence than anything (the knife tends to be around when a fire is being built)

as for the Extrema ratio knife shown above, you could make something pretty simmilar for less. get the EESE pack with either the EESE 5 or 6, a glow stick and a diamond sharpener. the survival kit is available as the BCB "ultimate survival kit", although I can't find it in the US, I can find the USAF variant, which seems to be a slightly larger kit (although packed in the same tin).
by my reckoning you could get the lot for under $300

I don't attach anything to my knife sheaths. My Randall Made knives come with a little stone, and my RAT 7 sheath has a pouch, but I stuffed it full of .22 long rifle in a baggie.

My belt knife sheath has a pouch that contains a firesteel and fatwood piece, sturdy ziploc bag and water purification tablets, and an ITP AO3 flashlight. I may add a sharpening stone if I find one that will fit.

I'm in the camp that carries less than more on a sheath although I don't think it's a bad idea. I've got a couple F1's and had a couple sheaths made for them that hold a firesteel. Normally, everything else is in my pockets or a pack. I do almost always carry a mini-kit in a pocket that somewhat duplicates (to a small scale) what I've got in my fanny or daypack. The mini kit is either a Ritter PSK or an Altoids tin which is wrapped with paracord, duct tape, a couple ranger bands, and bright pink surveyor tape. I'll also carry a 45 gallon garbage bag in a baggie in another pocket.

Now, these things could all be attached to a sheath pouch of some sort but I like to keep things separate so that if you lose one thing you might have something else elsewhere on your person.

Well...I have a few different types set up..ranging from just a mag bar to smaller kits with fishing gear and stuff. Lately it's been more of a case of my knife attached to a survival "Pack" that a pouch attached to a knife.

Here are some pics of one of them from this thread on how I did it.

For tinder, matches, tablets or anything small that needs to be kept dry I use Extra Strength Tylenol tubes.
You can pick them up at just about any pharmacy, gas station, grocery store, etc. cheap. They are small enough to fit in most sheath pouches and in my experience are completely waterproof. I have more than once found them in the bottom of the washing machine when left in my pockets and the contents have always been dry as a bone.

the M2 is one of those pouches that acts bigger than it is- you'd be surprised what you can hold in it- the 2 person AMK heat sheet fits in there like it was made for it (w/ lots of room to spare)- looks good on the big knives :)
