The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Nathan just to be clear about the K20 questions, are you referring to future K20 variant which you have nicknamed K20.1? I am a bit confused because I was under the impression that the K20.1 was not going to be seen in the wild till late 2025! Have you pretty much dialed in the changes to the original or are you still tinkering?

I'll try to bring a couple of the OG K20 to blade show.

Curious if a 3.75-4" drop point style blade optimized for hunting would be in the future? I found the FK2 just a little larger than what I would like for deer/elk field work. Not sure if anyone has used an EDC or other model that I am unaware of for field game work?

For actual field dressing, the EDC 1.2.

For dressing the game afterwards, you only need a DEK1.

BFK is saved for Elk or Moose sized game.

It’s all about size and control in tight areas, afterwards it’s your choice 👍

Awesome! Thanks for the tips! I'll see if I can track either of those down :-) I've been eyeing the EDC models just never am fast enough on the keyboard!

Edit to add - the 1.2 does look great! If anyone is looking to move one let me know :-)

The EDC 2 is a bit thicker blade stock than most of my hunting knives, but I've used an EDC 2 to field dress a few deer and it's been used to make the small cuts needed to dress small game animals and birds several times because I had it handy on my hip.

It works pretty well and definately stands up to some contact with bone. It holds it's edge fairly well and is easy enough to touch up the edge when needed. The tweaks Nathan made for the EDC 1.2 would give it a slight advatage in my opinion over the earlier EDC models (but I haven't put it into practice ... yet).

I'm still holding out hope the Skinner makes a return. I prefer a thinner blade for hunting purposes with a slightly smaller handle (the EDC handle is perfection for general/hard use ... but a more neutral handle for changing grips in tight spaces is my preference for field dressing game, using a pinch grip with an EDC makes it work pretty well though.

Pretty sure someone recently used an edc for deer.

You could check this thread:

It's almost as if the return of the skinner was in demand! I would stand in line to buy at least two, perhaps Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist has a comment to share on that note?
