The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

@Mrgauth

Shiro will warranty your knife the same if it comes from Recon 1 or the secondary market. I have spoken to Tom rather extensively about this topic.

I do not see an added value when purchasing from an authorized retailer when there are literally dozens of knives being sold on the secondary that are 1000% authentic and come from solid sellers with documented reputations.

If I were in the market for a Shiro, I'd look on the popular social media site's Shirogorov group's.

If you've ever looked up Shirogorov on YouTube, you've seen the account "VladsBlades." Hes an authority and probably one of the largest collectors when it comes to Shirogorov. He runs and manages most of the groups. They're about bullet proof if you're diligent and exercise common sense.

Much nicer knives can be had for the same price you'd paying for a single bear brand new.

That's what I would choose.
WOW! This is so nice. I am reading this, and it feels so good
Thank you!

Anyone know if Shirogorov will sell their hats again? I seemed to have missed them on the site by a couple weeks.

Hey Y'all Bear Denizens:

If I may shamelessly give myself a plug unless against the rules in which case ChazzyP may slap me as hard as he wishes and I will edit this post! A whole bunch of Shiro goodies posted in the Exchange (Gears and things) plus I will add a lot more beads and things tomorrow (limit one posting per day per Exchange sector). I just wanted to give this subforumites a friendly heads up. That's all :)

How to create a Three Bears knife from a One Bear model:
1. Get a One Bear knife--in this case it's my older F3 Python which pre-dates the Bears categories but has the right attributes with SRBS, no lightening pockets, and a "lesser" steel.
2. Buy a vintage Shirogorov/Nasgul bead through Casinostocks Casinostocks out of JustinFournier JustinFournier 's collection and tie-up a lanyard with it.

...plus one more here equals Three Bears. :p

Beautiful! I’m super glad you got that bead. Enjoy it in good healthy my friend.

Let me know what he says, I'd like to know how they actually define "warranty."

I believe it's a bit strict in the sense that if it's not an actual defect and user error, there is a charge. I bent the living hell out of my clip on my T, I had to pay around $100 for that, but, it was my fault.
So I have been emailing Tom back and forth, and went through my emails from back when I sent my knife in for repairs (detent replacement). It turns out I ended up sending 170 USD to their email address, but their PayPal address is different and that they did not process that payment.

I contacted PayPal, and because the claim is over 180 days they said they were unable to reverse the payment. The thing that confuses me is where the money ended up.

Kind of a bitter sweet situation. I found out my knife was covered under warranty, but also that I sent a payment that's floating around PayPal.

The 170 was the price given to me for a complete spa, and somehow I figured it was for a repair plus shipping. I just sent the payment because I was a bit antsy to get my knife repaired and sent back.

Looking back Tom did tell me in an email to recall payment and he would talk to the service department to get a cost breakdown, but I missed that detail or maybe thought I would just receive a partial refund later.

It was quite some time ago now (fall 2017) but at least it got cleared up some and makes me feel better about Shirogorov as a company.

Tom was very good about the whole thing considering it was such a long time ago.

Now I'm scratching my head and wondering who took my 170 dollars? Haha

I'm glad you got that figured out, marcus52AR marcus52AR , but your money being in limbo seems a bit of a head-scratcher. Your PP Activity--transactions--page should show a receiver/seller to identify where your $170 went. If you used a card or bank acct and not a PP balance, that should show who got the money. I know PP can be pretty rigid with their policies, but if they never delivered your funds to anyone and it's withdrawn from your acct, they don't have to recoup it--they cashed it in themselves.

I've been carrying this around the house lately... the Hati R with the Alutex scale... such a perfect knife... anyone here have any opinions on Alutex as compared to G-10 or CF? (ps as a 'rugged indoorsman' my knives do not see much use beyond fidgeting and causing self-inflicted wounds...)

I posted this in another thread, thinking that the alert I received was leading me into the Den. Although I was mistaken, it actually kinda fit after I realized what I'd done. Anyway, here's what I wrote after sending the F95NL on its way....

"As y'all may recall, I've been toting around the F95NL World Tour knife for the past three weeks, compliments of the Shirogorov Workshop and organized by their rep Tom over at USN. I really enjoyed carrying and using the knife and think that Shiro has done a very good thing continuing to make serial production knives with pre-R features, creating lower price points for knives of no lesser quality, just more modest materials and simpler manufacture.

For those of you with USN access, here's a link to my impressions of the NL. Here's a few of the goodbye pics I shot this morning before boxing the NL up and sending it along to its next stop on the World Tour."

I am selling most of my knife collection... But one segment keeps growing... Shirogorov knives .... and I am ok with a few other brands. Mostly Spyderco... But any new purchases will be Shiro!

In case anybody’s watching the bouncing ball... R-1 put some Neon Zeros up on their website at 2:45pm (ET) today and they were sold out right around two hours later.

Im watching it myself. They’re starting to roll out a little more frequently. They’re also already starting to pop up on the secondary quite often as well. I want to pick one up at some point but am waiting for the right price.

Any of you guys have advice for sharpening an F95 on a Wicked Edge? I've had to cut small sharpening choils in my Spyderco's to avoid sharpening a recurve into the blade because of how the edge terminates at the bottom. I'd like to avoid this, but I've become so adept at it, I don't mind if it's the only way.
