The Les George Knives Thread

So it’s definitely the pivot being too tight and not the detent? The detent can be adjusted by bending the lockbar ever so lightly to decrease the tension on it. If it’s in the pivot then I’d reach out to Les. I’d probably try new washers before I sent it in to him though. I tend to not mail off knives unless it’s absolutely necessary.

When the pivot is tight enough to eliminate blade play the knife has a very, very stiff action that is nothing like my Talos nor what I would expect from the way everyone talks about Les George knives. I don't think the detent has anything to do with it, and if anybody is bending the lockbar on a knife I spent $550 on it will be the maker lol. I reached out to Les so we'll see what he says.

Great...now I have to track down an OG Talos (I have to say though, I do love the new one). This thread is really hurting my bank account...it took me quite a while to find that Servo after norcalAF norcalAF said it would be up my alley (and is it ever).
Action is definitely dialed in on the current iteration Talos.............. but the original is a fantastic knife as well. I think it (V1.0) perfectly flirts with the size ceiling for a folder.

don’t forget about the myna and the OG Talos! 😉

Myna is the folder that made me start tracking down LGs. I love framelock flippers, but I never could find one that did everything exactly how I wanted. That design is like LG said "Hold my beer..."

Well I talked with Les a little bit and he said he'd have to see the knife to know exactly what's going on which is totally understandable. He said he likely wouldn't be able to look at it for at least a couple weeks due to Blade Texas coming up but did offer to send out new washers in the mean time. He said it probably won't change anything unless the washers I have were polished or otherwise messed with. Being at least the third owner I can't really be sure so I asked him to go ahead and send the washers and maybe if I'm lucky it will save me from having to send the knife in. I have messed with and dialed in the tuning to the point that I'm not even sure if I'm actually turning the screw most of the time and I still can't get it just right so fingers crossed some fresh washers allows everything to fall into place.

In other news my first MK3 will be here Thursday if UPS doesn't mess around and I'm really looking forward to that. At this point I really need to dump something from the collection to repent for my recent spending sins and honestly at this point I'm thinking my woody Servo might be on the chopping block if I can get this VECP dialed in. I like the Servo a lot and it is very fidgety but so far doesn't find its way into my pocket near as much as the Talos or VECP.

Nice! I was the opposite and didn’t really care for flippers. Actually sold my morp vecp flipper because of that. Then got the myna and suddenly wished I had my vecp back. Especially once I installed the skiffs and felt how smooth it can be. I used to never like feeling the vibrations of the bearings but the skiffs feel very hydraulic like washers.

Well I figured I owed you guys an up to date family photo...here we are a few short months after deciding I was going to try a Talos just to see what it was like 😂 The MK3 has an absolutely incredible action. Detent is a little soft but it is truly the smoothest washer action I've ever felt. The "George" on the blade is also deep engraved rather than just a surface marking which is a cool touch.

I have the same servo, love those PJ handles! And I have a frag MK3 that is like butter also! You've got a great collection started there! Oh, and Pete Gray makes monster disc for the MK3 in a wide variety of finishes, makes an awesome knife even better!

And with the oversized discs you can wave em as consistently as an Emerson. Which is awesome!😆

Well, that makes me want to try an MK3, which I've held off on to this point. If I have one little critique for the thumb-stud deployed LGs, it's that I feel like the detent is a bit stiff for my preference. If the MK3 is a bit softer, I would definitely welcome it.

Trust me buddy, you will love the MK3! Have I steered you wrong yet? Personally I prefer the stonewash blade, but all blade versions have exceptional action.
