Has anyone had any experience with a VECP pivot being installed crooked?
I just bought a VECP Button lock on the secondary market and have been trying to tune the blade play out of it, and what I'm seeing is that the press-fit pivot is installed at a slight angle to the handle scales. Les indicated that this can happen if someone tries to disassemble it and does a poor job, but I'm not sure what to do about it. Is the pivot possible to remove? It feels very firmly embedded in place.
My 2 cents for what it is……or is not worth
First and foremost sorry to hear your having an issue with your VECP
Les is human and can make mistakes but I don’t think it happens very often due to him being so hands on running a very small shop. He’s super busy and quite frankly I’m surprised he finds the time to respond to messages at all but he does and is usually very supportive.
I can almost guarantee you that he handled your VECP before it left the shop and it didn’t have a problem with the pivot, but again he is human just like you and me so it’s possible.
This is part of the issue with buying on the secondary, you have no idea what that knife has been through unless you’re buying from a good friend/family member that you can 100% trust. People do all kinds of things to knives and then try to resell NIB or LNIB.
Warranty service is another conversation all in itself. While many companies (usually much larger than LG) provide service even when you didn’t purchase directly is it really their responsibility? If the previous owner damaged the pivot and then sold it to you without telling you is it the manufacturers fault? That being said I’m sure Les has fixed many a knives that have been damaged by a buyer after they left his shop but has far better things to do with his time.
Again I’m sorry you’re having an issue with your VECP, hopefully you get it worked out. I currently own a few LG’s and my experience has been good. I look at them as pretty tools that are meant to be used. The design is not meant to be a drop shut fidget toy but often times with a little adjusting they are.
As you mentioned, maybe LG just isn’t for you, no harm in that. We all have stuff we like and dislike.
All I’ll say is there is a very good reason why you can’t ever find one of his knives in stock anywhere.
