The New Snark Thread

It’s not supposed to be this damn cold in late May 52 with light rain feels like temperature of 44

according to the car, we hit 80 today with bright sun -- the only day this week with no rain in the forecast.
I finally got my tent and tarp dried out from the gathering.

We went from mid-70's to 40's and 3" of rain today.

Also, so y'all keep the pressure up:

what's the price like on the procut?
super premium, or a little more affordable than some of the other newer steels?

it's really affordable, exactly the same price as AEB-L.

These prices are all nominal 1/8"x1.5" for comparison (they come in either 4ft or 3ft lengths). A Kephart takes about 9-10" of steel (call it 12" for layout loss and accounting purposes).

1084: $6.75/ft (cheapest stuff I buy, and performance/price ratio is off the chart)
ProCut: $10/ft
AEB-L: $10/ft
CPM154: $28/ft (while supplies last?? Not sure what the future of everything CPM still is exactly, Niagra's figuring it out)
Magnacut: $38/ft

Tempting

A while back I bought a canister stove from Temu. Amazon had same stove at 3x the price. Hose for the canister to set to the side like 3 pocket rocket burners combined. It didn’t make the minimum $15 order so I added a mini charcoal grill that comes apart like the twig stoves . I have used the stove once the little grill that was just to make the minimum, I have used a half dozen times and plan on using today

The scales are not fit right along the spine and by the finger guard area. The screws are wrong (shouldn't be torx) and fitment looks sloppy. The grind toward the choil is bad and I don't think ESEE would send that out the door. I could be wrong, but I don't think ESEE ever does kydex, either. They have molded sheaths.

Does the box / knife under the scales have "China" printed anywhere on it? Most clones that I've seen of other brands have it printed, as they're not trying to fool anyone, but they are ripping off patented designs.

things to note on that: (for the next time you're looking at one and trying to decide if it's real)
the paint is too smooth looking - esee uses an epoxy powder coat with texture, a fine one, but it's there.
the font is wrong
the missing bit in the top right corner of the etch next to the copyright symbol
torx screws instead of allen screws

that said, since it was a gift, use it hard and enjoy it, no need to make him feel bad about it.
if it dies, you're not out anything (and don't tell him), and if it survives the break in period, you have a new garden/kindling/truck kit/loaner knife.

He told me he got it on Temu I looked it up and it’s around $25-$27 delivered
I haven’t been able to do much with it except kitchen stuff, were it not an obvious counterfeit but just a bigger bushcraft knife with the sheath and generic teak-lok it comes with it seems to be a solid knife for that price .
I am going to call him and see if he wants to go shoot.22’s this weekend . that is all I can shoot right now

Esee does have kydex for the 4 and the 5.
Great kydex too imho. Iirc Also for that new small 3v knife I forgot the name of....
The 6 comes in injection molded plastic though.

plumberroy plumberroy It would be interesting to know if that kydex will fit a genuine 6 though...
