Here are a 691 Zipper and 692 Vanguard from my collection that you don't see to often, the handles were dipped to simulate blue marble. It was a special project for "SMU", I'm uncertain who SMU is. There were other blue marbleized knives in the series.

Kachina Doll, Quail, Scorpion, Thunderbird... Native American Series

I've posted these before and there was a discussion concerning Bucks naming. The 1st knife labeled "Kachina Doll" has been pointed out to more resemble a Zuni KnifeWing. The 3rd knife which Buck labeled as a "Scorpion" is clearly not a Scorpion in shape or number of legs. (a scorpion would have 8). It does more closely resemble a Gecko or lizard.

A Wilde Bill Cody custom. A Vanguard style handle but the blade grind/shape looks more like a 921(?) skinner.
One of my favorite blade cutouts, it is delicate, the Dolphin is connected only by the fin and tail, the nose does not touch.
A lucky find at a gun show years ago with no history.

Here is the whole gang for the first year....1991.
The (too) small guthook on the Quest was redesigned larger in 1992 and renamed Zipper.
1991 is a tough year to find as the knife hit the market late that year.
The small guthook QUEST is an even tougher find. I think the story is CJ discovered the poor function of the hook while trying out the new knife on a hunting trip and production was halted.

The mini Vanquard and Zipper models were a special project for Bass Pro. 686 and 687 models shown here.
They were also offered with rubber handles, the 688 and 689. I need to get a family picture.
About 1" shorter than their standard counterparts, they were not marked with a model number.
I recall there were some customs by Houser a few years ago using these short blades, Makael was kind enough to part with one to me.
