On another note…. And I should probably just go ahead and make a thread just for this, but can someone please tell me why I am only allowed 100 conversations and 500 total messages with a $350 dealer membership when I was allowed 200 conversations and 500 total messages with a $60/$75 platinum or knifemaker membership???
Brian this has been taken care of, dealers are now at 400 conversations and 1000 messages.

Even though the subscription page hasn’t been updated yet, you should see the increase on your end, if not send me a PM.

Edit to add, subscription page is now updated.

This has become even more of a pain in the butt with the recent changes to Instagram. I can no longer find a way to automatically resize my uploads on Instagram and have to do it manually with a different program.

I don't usually post photos directly to the forum because of the small size limitation, but I was going to start doing that more often with the changes to Instagram... And to prevent a future photobucket situation. I can’t tell you how much of a bummer it is to go into an instructional thread in the knifemakers subforum, only to find all the pictures broken.

I guess uploading directly to the website isn’t going to be a good option either with the current limitations. I’m looking for a more permanent solution than having to delete old pictures to post new pictures.

This is what I currently have to do to post pics here with the Instagram changes….

Take photos with my phone.
Email photos to myself.
Use my computer to resize the photos so they don’t take up the whole screen (or more).
Upload the photos to Imgur.
Post the link from Imgur to BladeForums.

It’s honestly a headache and has definitely resulted in me posting fewer pictures, and just posting less in general.

I don’t know what the solution is, other than maybe an unlimited photo add-on tier…. But I hope a good fix is found. The site has been hemorrhaging some of my favorite posters.

It’s a pain to constantly delete conversations. My dealer membership is up this month, and I’m actually thinking of dropping back to a platinum membership because of it.
why do you have to use your computer to resize, if using imgur? I'm not following.....

I used an app when I used bf to host the pic. to resize and compress it to hit the limits that were here.

I use phone camera then just upload to imgur or whatever pic posting site and post that link here. I don't use Instagram so this maybe why I'm not catching on to what your process is and why.....

what's is going on there that makes this extra step for you?

Is there a quicker way to delete photos? I'm down to 172/200MB but 1000/500 limit in attachments. Under the attachments page it seems you can only select one photo at a time to delete. Once you do that it also reverts back to page 1. It is quite the lengthy process. I know if you have multiple attachments in one post it's easier to just go into that thread and edit and delete from there. Is there a quicker way for single attachments?

Excellent! I just checked my inbox and I have considerably more space now. Thanks. :)

I can sometimes have 100+ orders from a weekend Instagram drop, and I’ve been holding off from doing a drop here because I didn’t want to deal with the inbox issues. That should really help. :)

I don’t have the Imgur app on my phone, so maybe that is different?

The way Imgur used to be is that when you uploaded a picture from a PC, it gave you an option to select which size screen you wanted to resize the picture for (from like 13” - 24” or something like that). That option has been gone for the last few months now.

Currently when I upload a picture on Imgur without resizing the picture, the picture will take up more than the whole screen. If you look at the post on a phone, the picture will be resized correctly, but if someone on a pc looks at a picture I posted, they have to scroll up and down the page to see the whole knife because it won’t fit on the screen. I’ll post an example from my PC when I get in from the shop.

When it takes you to page 1. Hit the back arrow it takes you to exactly where you were.

Also if you hit the page number it lets you enter what page you want to go to.

Here's is what I mean jbmonkey jbmonkey .

This is how a picture I post looks on a PC if I don't manually resize the photo. This is on a 27" 2560 x 1440 monitor.

Is there a way to limit posts in the exchange so that they can only use photos from third party hosting sites, while allowing BF hosted photos for the rest of the site?

I’ve gotta think that the pictures in the exchange are eating up an insane amount of space, and don’t really provide any value to the website after the item is sold.

I would be very unhappy if this were the case Fixall Fixall I post all my images off my laptop after I edit them for size and clarity. With all this going on, lesson learned, I have decided to delete ALL sale photos within 30 days after the sale has concluded.

Such a short time delete sale thread photos might be a better policy for BF to adapt. At the least it could be a banner recommendation going forward.

Not to mention the porn on the backend🙄

Auto deleting pictures in the exchange after a set amount of time was my first thought, but the photos are hosted on the forum, rather than the thread or subforum (if that makes sense). Because of that, I don’t think there would be a way to auto delete photos from a particular thread or subforum.

The "Back End" is only accessible by Staff/Moderators, of which you're neither.
You know exactly where I'm talking about, don't split hairs because I'm not allowed to mention it by name. How does literal pornography benefit the site by being hosted here?

I'm not splitting hairs, I'm just correcting another of your false information posts.

I’ve asked it elsewhere, but I suppose it belongs here too.

There is something I don’t understand about the situation, so maybe someone here can correct my ignorance.

Why can’t the storage be upgraded to a level where this becomes a non-issue? Is it really that cost prohibitive?

My wife works for an AI intranet company that uses nearly a quarter of a petabyte (yea, you read that correctly, lol) of hosted storage for their servers through AWS and MS Azure. To increase their server storage by 250gb it costs an extra $7 - $10 per month.

Kevin has stated that the forum has used an additional 85gb over the last eight months. That works out to 127.5gb per year.

I don’t know how many paying members this website has out of the 400,000+ registered users, but it seems like that would be a very inconsequential increase in costs to keep up with the forum’s increased storage usage.

I feel like there must be something major that I’m missing.

The server storage has been upgraded many times, increasing costs for the owner, only to have space run out again, causing lots of issues. How big should he upgrade to so it doesn't ever happen? What's the magic number?

I’d consider an increase in storage costs of around $100 per 250gb per year a reasonable, and sustainable business cost. It doesn’t take many paid memberships to cover an increase like that.

If the cost of storage was considerably higher than that, I would be shopping around, or would considering making the investment in hosting the forum with my own hardware.

But again, this isn’t my area of expertise and could very well be missing something significant. That’s why I asked.
