The fist thing I did when I had arrived in Laguiole was visiting the "Glandières" shop. This was a bad mistake! They had a magnificent 13cm "Laguiole droit" from Jérôme Lamic I just couldn't resist. It put a serious dent into my budget but I don't regret it!

Steel is RWL34, scales are mammoth.

After having had a light lunch at Laguiole I drove to Gaillac-Bas, for a visit of Jéròme Lamic's workshop.
Out of principle I do not take pics inside cutler's workshops and knife shops.

Jérôme gave my a tour of his workshop, it was very structured, clean and well organised, and explained me the different steps how to make a custom folding knife. Then he showed me the life he had made for me, a real beauty as you can see below. Then we had a coffee and discussed the details of the Laguiole he will make for me for next summer, before I left for Espalion.

A 13 cm, blade is made from 14C28 steel and the scales are made from common holly.

S Skyline Drive I agree about no pictures from a workshop or shop, it's intrusive  That's a fantastic ornate knife yet strong! Interested by the use of Holly, it's a beautiful tree (won't grow here, too dark too long...) and the wood is very tough apparently, smooth, close grained and white. I believe it is used for pistol grips in the US ?

I begin to suspect that you have the most impressive collection of Lags - outside of France

Regards, Will

It may be common holly but it is what makes the the knife extraordinary. I believe a more ornate wood would of clashed with the rest of the artistry.
