The prototypes will be done any day now. I talked to my CNC guy last week and told him that I want to do a run of at least 100 of these and have them ready before Christmas. He said he's onboard for the timeline. Buckle up! I'll have a sale for the prototypes at a discount and then a pre-order for the main run.

He told me he picked up a new machine with much better tooling so we will see some very high quality finishes on the Bowies.

First one milled out. Ill have the rest in hand next week. I'm going to clean these up GOOD on the grinder. Every surface will be finished to 400+ grit.

Also... these came out a little beefier than we originally planned. Finished thickness will be .300 😱. A true king of bowies.

I think we are doing something right with this model. These are going to be a bear to grind though.... them some big a$$ bevels.
 
How or why did they end up so thick? If they ended at .300, and your OP says they start at .290, where did the discrepancy happen?

The steel sheet that I ordered came in oversized at .317 and the machining fixture was built based on that stock thickness. The fixture is super tight so we have to run with a little bit thicker stock now. The thicker stock actually makes machining easier and cleaner due to increased rigidity so we just went with it. It ended up making the tooling even crispier and easier to do.

Edit: I can also try to take a few down to .265 on the blanchard grinder and see how much of a weight difference there is. I promise these will still be nimble and well balanced!
