One thing I started long ago was to not stitch across where the belt loop is sewn on, but to stitch more along the sides as it is glued down and just needs the stitches to keep it from pulling apart. But horizontal stitching can make a weaker section of leather and after a while the wearing could end up tearing the leather just like a perforation. I have had several sheaths sent to me to be repaired because the maker had done that.
