Whacha Been Up To......

Thanks, it’s plenty tough and has a welt as well

One thing I started long ago was to not stitch across where the belt loop is sewn on, but to stitch more along the sides as it is glued down and just needs the stitches to keep it from pulling apart. But horizontal stitching can make a weaker section of leather and after a while the wearing could end up tearing the leather just like a perforation. I have had several sheaths sent to me to be repaired because the maker had done that.

New guy here. Many many years ago I got my first really nice sheath from Dwayne. Learning how to work with leather has been on my mind ever since. A little while back I invested in some tools and have just recently started hands-on learning. I have a couple large pieces in progress and have been making slip pouches to practice. Here is the most recent one I made (#3) for a new knife that came in last week. Not exactly where I want it yet, but I’m getting there.

Well, it’s not for a knife but I did finish this guitar strap up recently.

Old post I know but that’s a great looking strap! I’ve recently gotten into making guitar straps and am curious what machine you used to stitch it. Is all the tooling hand punched or do you have an embosser roller machine?

Thank you for the kind words. Everything you see in the picture was done by hand, including the tooling and stitching.
