What did you rehang today?

Never seen that. Is there a hook on the end of the chain?

They do have a hook at the end of the chain but it is too large to fit into the links’ holes. I didn’t notice anything specific that it would connect to on the housing. The hook is large enough grab the chain to “cinch up” after you wrap it around something you want to move I guess.

They have been the same place for years-I’ll grab a photo next time I’m there.

similar to this do you think?

Gambles Artisan 3.5 pound. Octagon 34 inch handle, started as a fat 36 inch hardware store handle. Flattened the side and front/back with a draw knife then used a rasp from there. Smoothed everything by scraping with a knife.

Anyone know what the stamped numbers letter codes are on these axes? I have seen similar stamps on several gambles heads.

That's a winner.

It's a modification. They had a need and made what works. And I have not doubt it met their needs.

And BTW, for those who aren't familiar with the brand, "di" stand for Dixie Industries. They survived supplying logging equipment to the Southern logging industry. And their parent company is well diversified.

That's great! That's exactly what people should be doing with re-hangs. I like the crisp lines and the attention to details, like not leaving a Quasimoto hump under the poll.

Likely means it's a Kelly woodslasher axe stamped for Gamble's.

No, it means it's likely a Kelly/ True Temper product. It could be a Woodslasher or it could be something higher end like the equivalent of a Flint Edge or Perfect. My recollection is that the Artisan was a premium line. It's more likely akin to a Flint Edge.

Never seen the like...But somehow doubt that it's factory.(nice 1/4" high-tensile chain+hook).

Peavey offers Such a monstrous level ratio that often people use it for other stuff.
Something like that can be used to bind a load down(to pull a chain tight),or to drag something,by getting a purchase with the spike, and pulling on the handle...
Also may somehow be used in chainsaw-winching stuff about. That chain and hook look awfully like a tailing chain for winch...
(sorry..could've just said "i dunno":)

Thanks for the correction, I knew this pointed to Kelly at least.

Hung this “FrankinKelly” on a 24” handle. This is an experiment at this point. Seeing if the length will be a useful tool or not. If not I will put a full length handle on it.

Also, I am still working on the edges. Because of the awkward grinding of the splitting side it will take a while. It seems like whoever did this new a little about exes because it did have two separate grinds and they shortened the splitting side. I’m sure they had some kind of need for it I just don’t know what.... ideas?

•3lb. Swamper
•25" Adirondack
•Walnut Wedge
•4&1/8 lb. Total

1/2 quart BLO and this poor old handle is still thirsty...she soaks it up before I can put her down to dry lol!
I hammered in hickory wedges in thru the eye from the shoulder to make up the gap caused from the rehang, salvage of the handle.
I cant wait to swing away...letting her set up overnight and will give her a test run tomorrow.

Way to go, looks like it should have amazing balance.
