What Did You Sharpen Today?

Yes I did. :D

Well; it supposed to be a prototype till I find some time (read: make myself) to build a final version.
Looks like it's going to stay like this for few more sharpenings. ;)
Very cool man! That's really something. Very ingenuitive. 👌

Bring on the junk.

Everyone always has some story about a knife. The vintage Buck 110 copy is a Pakistan special. And of course, it belongs to Momma. The only pocket knife dear old mom has ever carried. She should have lost the thing but...memories or some other shiat.

M-Tech. Another POS.

The Pakistan jobber is getting a mirror. 20°. The M-tech, whatever the factory edge angle. 600 grit.

Someone asked me to sharpen his pocket knife. It was in a very bad condition. A lot of damage on the edge so I had to removed at least a milimeter of the edge when reprofiling. The brass was not golden yellow but more like brown and the wood was very dirty.
To make a story short…. I sanded the wood, polished the brass and the blade and made a new edge.
When testing I cut some salami and when the edge touched my wooden cutting board it stopped cutting paper. So...the steel is soft…very soft. I had to refresh the edge.
The owner didn't know where this knife came from. Obviously it's a cheap copy. There's nothing on the knife, not even a so popular 'Inox' word.

But there is a contradiction …. They say you can't put a good edge on a soft blade. Well, here is a proof you can. Check my video. The edge can cut cheap thin paper. It won't hold an edge but it's sharp and without a burr.
Could be you will have to wait for a few second for a video to start.

I am crafting a spear for myself. I made this spear head from a landscaping edger. It is tempered ALOT. But, I will keep working on the edge, as it is almost profiled to what I want. This is the first time I’ve attempted a legitimate spear head, so I have no idea what I’m doing. Just running off of the images/ideas in my head. Check it out. Thanks for looking.

EDIT:

I have completed my modern spear. I’ve attached some (not great) pics of the finished product. I used a 5ft hickory tool handle. I liked the contour work already on it from the mill, so I only cleaned and smoothed it out with some 150 grit. It was also unfinished, making it much easier to get started on. I flamed the entire shaft before putting 4 coats of wax on it. The head is friction fit (very tight) and secured with a steel pin rivet. I’ve sharpened it to the point of not only piercing but cutting ability. As I mentioned before, the steel in this thing has a hard temper, so it took me about 3 hours with a file, stone, and strop. I made an edge protector for it out of some tanned leather and lace, and that’s about it. Thanks for viewing.

Those last two knives. I wasn't in the mood.

The first knife got a promise of some pecan wood for my grill. The guys says he including some peach tree.

He just keeps handing me knives. If I didn't enjoy sharpening different things. He'd be F'ed.

Let's be honest here. If my grilling wood would have shown up after the first knife. The second two would be much more sharper.

There's emotions going on when you're grinding on a knife. Something that'll slice free hanging toilet paper.

Should've drop off the wood.

PM2 that I tweaked a bit.

First time sharpening a PM2, the edge right in front of the faux sharpening choil it has is a pain and I'm pretty sure I missed it. Hard to get in there without scraping the edge of the blade stock.

Something like this?
I like toothy edges... #240 diamond file and 7 micron strop just to remove a burr.
You will have to wait a few second for video to start. There is a chance you will have to hit 'play' arrow twice.... well, google drive thing I guess.

Very cool setup! Looks like a kind of Edge Pro style where you hold the knife against the guides, or do you clamp the blade?

Very cool setup!
Oh, that's the first version of my kitchen knife sharpener. From left and right there are two white arrow shape plastics to position the blade and in the middle is metal plate with screw to fix the blade.
Now I'm on third version with magnets to hold the knife.
I didn't like EdgePro idea holding the knife while sharpening.
The best thing about those systems is you can build them from scrap parts.
The only limit is your imagination.
