What do you have in your BUG OUT BAG that no one else has?

Copies of important documents like birth and marriage certificates, powers of attorney for the wife, bank accounts, property titles, etc.

Flash drive with scans of the above along with any important or sentimental photos.

Waterford Press pocket guides on Wilderness Survival, Edible plants (specific to our area), Outdoor Knots, and Navigation for the family in case I'm not around.

Laminated porn, just in case it's wet out.

Loved the suggestions of potassium permanganate, spigot key (think I'd go for a 4-way), and bow-fishing arrow heads and frog gigs.

What I have that everyone need is this Wildertools fire pouch.

I'm not Mack, but that is a Tedd Cash tobacco/tender box with built in burning lens. They are available in German silver as well. Maybe iron too. It has been years since I looked at his goods. I have a couple of his brass percussion cap boxes. They are the same size as that lens lid, IIRC.

This was given to me by Rick (Wildertools) a couple of years back. It's an incredible little fire kit. This is what it has in it.

I seem to remember buying my Tedd Cash goods from Dixie Gun Works. He was also making stamped and cast muzzleloader furniture at that time.

A metal clipboard, and a dog bell. The dog bell rings very nicely, and comes in handy for a bear scare, and as an alarm. A clothing marker is good to have too.

I wonder if anyone has done any in-depth interviews/studies of homeless people and cataloged their survival techniques. The ingenuity that those folks have is often staggering, but as they say "necessity is the mother of invention."

It's hard to believe that Bladeforums is over ten years old now. This was from the early days here. There was a guy named Jason Leonard and he had a series of posts that were put together and before he disappeared, I obtained permission to put it on my website. It's been up there for about eight years or so.

There is a very interesting book called The Mole People. I forget the author's name, but she was a sociologist who spent a lot of time with the homeless of NYC, particularly those living in abandoned subway tunnels. Although it was not a survival skill book per se, there were lots of descriptions of their techniques of "urban bushcraft." I gave my copy away to another BF forumite, but I'm sure it is not hard to obtain.

That's very interesting. There is a documentary about the homeless living underground in NYC on Amtrak property as well. It's called, "Dark Days" and it is excellent.

In my BOB, I keep a tritium torch, which is a higher end beta light. Hard to come by & pretty rare in the BOB world.

I keep waiting for someone here in the states to start carrying them as I don't want to order one from Britain. Nice piece of Gucci Gear. :)

Hey, Don! Long time no see, man! I should have known you'd have some info on the subject! :D:thumbup:

I got mine from a group buy on candlepowerforums. There's a really reputable seller there, you'll just have to search trititum & the forum name & you'll find him. They're expensive, but really neat!

Thanks for that link. Very good read!

A bag of dried up used park condoms. I'll hand them out as chewing gum to the drunk little teenaged c...suckers that split wood by my camp site at 3 am.
