An interesting thought this morning on desirability, demand and supply:
In the early 2K years, Camillus made a licensed clone of thr Darrel Ralph "Madd Maxx" folding dagger, called "Cuda Maxx", at an affordable price point, around $125 to $150. It was in D2 with plane Titanium handle slabs anodized powder blue.
The Ralph shop was turning out pretty much the same knife with high alloy blades and Damascus with Titanium handles inlaid with exotic materials for over a grand back then.
What caught in my mind this AM was that the Cuda Maxx was only produced for s few years before Camillus went out of business. yet, I am seeing pristine, new-in-the-box Cuda Maxx knives offered on e-Bay every day, in as-new condition but pre-owned, complete with pouch and papers. Sometimes it is Aanu opened factory sealed box. One thought is that someone found an unshipped commercial order of these knives somewhere (storage locker?) or something like that. But the cynic in me thinks it might also be that someone is continuing to make them somewhere on the Pacific Rim and selling them as original production from over twenty years ago.
A limited demand for the Camillus iteration of the Cuda Maxx is there at an inflated price point, and the supply seems to just meet the demand. The demand seems to be there, but there must be some legal impediment to making and selling them as new production. Now, Ek branded knives continue to be made by whoever it is that currently holds that brand's rights . . .but n not the Cuda Maxx.
