When it's not exactly Made in the USA - Hoback

I only have one Hoback knife, and it's approx 8 yrs old. Was he farming out work to China at that time? I have no idea.
Since I already own the knife, and I paid what I felt/feel was a reasonable price for it, I'll admit that I don't really care. Is the value of my knife lessened - perhaps...but I wasn't looking to sell it; anyway. Would I be in the market for a Hoback now? Probably not...but I've got other Chinese-made knives that are of excellent quality; so I'm not going to trash a knife I like.;

The new mk6 Kwaiback is out with a lower price but at least now he admits it is completely made in china.

^Not sure I've ever seen a product ad with a good chunk of it just copy/pasted from Wikipedia.

God, I love the arrogance of this guy:

"We are doing away with the eccentric pivot and switching to a D-shaped pivot barrel for anti-rotation. This change was due to customers struggling to understand the concept and having a difficult time reassembling the knife. We switched to ceramic pivot bearings. Honestly, if you know me, you know that I think this is not needed… but customers are always asking about it so we made the switch. The Kwaiback was my last holdout. Backspacer screws are now held in a standoff that goes through the backspacer instead of threading directly into the titanium. Again, not necessary, but entirely customer driven.

"We made these design changes because customers kept bitching about us charging what we charge without having these modern features to help justify the cost."

This dude's a bum. How easy would it have been to just be like "We've made some design upgrades! Thank your for your money."?

It's all good news. Says right there at the start they've stopped cutting corners.

At least the guy PROVES he's a total A-hole with every consistently passive-aggressive slap to the customer's face in his "communiques". Who can't see the anger between the lines?

Then he follows the slap with a biblical quote. Real upstanding character indeed

"You mean I can't charge $625 for a chinese factory made Bestech/Reate knife anymore?!! Damn internet heathens screwed me over!"

No doubt Jake is a talented designer, but my last Hoback was the Husky that I purchased just before this all kicked off.

I’ve been asking and begging for a lefty Kwaiback for years. It’s always been one of my favorite knife designs.

I can’t make this up but Jake emailed me like a week before this fiasco began asking if I’d like a custom Kwaiback made.
I was going over the options back and forth on emails. Then radio silence and I saw the Instagram post. Fast forward to this Monday, he finally responded. Apologized for the delay and asked if I was still interested.

I’m torn. I still love the knives but I’m unsure. The hobbyist in my wants to get one, however the realist in me says run! Basically like I’m buying a used car. Value will be half whatever I pay the day I take delivery. Feel like we are talking Barry Bonds. Yeah he was a beast but he will always have that asterisk on his name that he used roids. I’m rambling..

Also how USA made are the customs really? Guess I’d never know that answer? If I could somehow verify they are 100% made I’d feel a lot more confident.

A custom is a LOT of money. Possibly the most I’ve ever spent on a knife so I think I have answered my own question. It’s just too much money to spend with the current situation.

I feel like my middle school crush just laughed at me when I asked her to the dance.

I wouldn't even consider buying anything from this clown again. First, why support someone who defrauded all these dealers and customers. That should be reason enough. And if not, consider that you don't have the slightest idea what you are actually getting or where it is made. The steel? Why would you believe anything he says? It won't just have an asterisk if you try to sell it, that doubt will be there every time you look at it.

And again, seriously, don't give your money to scumbags. Just don't.

I don't have time to read all 2K posts but I hope he has traded in PS 23 for John 8:32

I was a Hoback collector but sold all three years ago. Be worth about half of what I got then now.

Yep just like my first high school girlfriend…. I’ve gotta let ‘em go 😢
