Who still carries a Case Knife?

Thanks and also to Old Hunter Old Hunter M Murphy Slaw . It is the Big CASE Stockman 6375 and was an unexpected and very kind gift from I Invoice . I gave it a tea-dye bath and this fixed the colour very nicely to a good emerald hue. Once I finished with the 'paper work' on the blades, got to watch getting cut though....It needs a thorough wash&brush up with liquid soap to removes filings and dirt, thorough drying too. Then oiling and sharpening, brilliant!

I say this because recently I've seen any number of people lamenting weak to non existent W&T and no snap on a very recent GEC model release. Unsurprisingly, they're disappointed at the very least (given the hoop jumping and not inconsiderable price) This CASE I've just finished fixing up to my ideal has great W&T and loud talk, it's what you want isn't it, especially on a big knife? Some people are saying the spring strengths on that particular GEC are affected by the spring heat treat, I don't know if this is true as I'm not a metals engineer, but if so it's rather puzzling, does that apply to the heat treat of blades too?

Will Power Will Power , I was the one that mentioned the heat treating process affecting the pull and snap on GEC knives. I read it somewhere in a post made by Randy Bell. Someone asked him why spring strength varied. He said GEC cannot completely control the heat treating, because that part of the process is outsourced. He indicated that very small differences between pattern runs can have significant effects. He wrote they do inspect
the first few builds of a new pattern to check spring strength, and they make adjustments if they can. But apparently, they will not scrap hundreds of parts to improve walk and talk. Now, I don’t know if what Randy wrote is actually the case. One of the best companies in the business does their heat treating, and it hard for me to imagine they could not get it right. Just food for thought.

Bought a couple of Case Knives Delrin "Rough Black" replicas when they were issued in 2015. I bought a Canoe as a gift for a fishing buddy and the 6318 SS Medium Stockman for myself. It doesn't get much pocket time so this weekend is it's time to be carried. OH

Leslie Tomville Leslie Tomville many thanks for your insights Greg, it does provide food for thought and seems rather haphazard. I say this because the 73 has a fine strong spring and my 33 Conductors have first class W&T, many 15s too.Why wouldn't they reject substandard springs on inspection? Seems like a choice to continue with them whatever.

Don't think I've had a CASE with weak pull/snap yet ?

That Redbone is the Prince of Carmine

I wasn't intending a knock GEC aspect, both CASE & GEC are 'notorious' for making exceptional knives, just different from each other and that's always good.

Attending my last national building materials trade show before I retire from selling building materials (later this year). Decided my carry knife for this week should be both practical and ceremonial; Case Second-cut stag got the call. A 1984 5318SS with New Grind blades and perfect W&T, if it was a 1983 that would have been the year I started with this company. OH
