Boker Ak101 Vs Boker Tactical Recurve (jim W.)

Hey topspecIt,
Has your AK-101 arrived yet? Can't wait to hear what you think!

No it hasn't yet, I'm in the UK and it's coming from the US. I've been told it will be on or around this coming Tuesday (29th). You can be sure that as soon as I get it I'll create a new thread with a mini-review. But while I wait, I find out more and more about other people's positive experience with the knife (and very little negative issues if any).

Given the size of the blade I think the -only- thing that could be improved is blade material but I'm not sure until I get it and test it.

Although some may disagree I think that this knife is certainly the same caliber as the Kershaw Zero Tolerance 0200. Since I own both I will compare the two at some point.

Will keep you updated and I'm sure I won't be dissappointed!

BTW: Wayne1961 - have you used the knife yet for any "real-world problems"? if so, what did you cut and how did it go?

Nope. Haven't used it for anything yet. Presently, it's my back-pocket "tactical" edc. Actually, I alternate between the AK-101 and the Armed Forces II.
I didn't know you were one of our British cousins. England? Scotland? Ireland? Wales?

England, and quite frankly it's a tough place for knife collectors and users. If you are caught with a knife greater than 3 inches and locks then the government WILL prosecute you (as opposed to cautioning) - leading to imprisonment. If you a law abiding citizen you are stuffed. On the other hand, if you are a criminal in the UK...<you can guess the rest>

Depressing.

Can you at least own these knives as long as you keep them at home? We have a saying here in the states: "Never trust a government that fears armed citizens."
Our knife laws here vary from state to state. I'm in Indiana. Here, only auto/assisted knives are illegal (Class B misdemeanor). Otherwise, we can carry any knife we want. I've shown my AK-101 to a number of police officers here in town and they love it.

Yeah, you can keep large fixed blades, locking knives of any size in the home or if you need it work purposes outside the home (i.e.butcher etc.).

Our government doesn't just fear it's citizens but it has them by the b*lls and have castrated almost everyone. No one seems to care anymore about whatever law the government comes up with because there is NOTHING the people can do about it.

If it is 3 inches or longer and locks (liner lock or whatever) then you are going to jail, not a caution or fine but prosecution! Yet knife crime doesn't seem to have decreased since these obscene laws came into effect. I wonder why? - criminals don't follow the law so they will carry them regardless! This is so simple that I'm sure the law makers are aware of this - so what is their plan?

Auto and gravity knives are banned outright home or outside they just banned (including butterfly knives).

In the UK there is no real relationship between public and police in the way you have experienced. People just want an excuse to just lock you up and throw away the key.

Side note: Last week a man was prosecuted and CONVICTED with a criminal record for leaving his disposal bin open by 3-4 inches! Now, he has to declare the offence when applying for jobs etc. WTF! - More is surely on the way!

Sinister and depressing. I see less and less difference with Nazi Germany.

Believe me, there are those here in America that would just LOVE to enact the same sort of laws as exist there in Britain. They view humans as nothing more than "cattle" that need government oversight and regulation. We call them "liberal Democrats". There is currently a battle for control of this ilk's leadership between a thoroughly corrupt old witch named Hillary Clinton and a black muslim radical named Hussein Obama. There is nothing these two Marxists would like more than to impose a socialist "People's Republic" on this country. As you said, "depressing".

I'm well aware of the on-goings in the US. I hope and pray that we cross all boundaries of creed, race and religion and ALL work for a better world in whatever way we can! If that's all we can do then we must do it.

Hi Shaolin,
You won't be disappointed. The AK-101 is a real winner from Boker. I'll be looking forward to what both you and topspecIt have to say about the 101.

Thanks for the heads up. It will be a month or two, but it will be bought, lol

I've used mine (plain edge) for slicing up quite a bit of carboard. Spent an afternoon slicing up old boxes to fit into the recycling dumpster, the flat grind on this blade lets it slice very well. It never seemed to bind up at all, even cutting through double and even triple wall cardboard. After a few hours of this, it had dulled slightly, but only took a few passes on a ceramic sharpener to bring it back to a nice shaving sharp edge. I've used quite a few budget knives that dulled very quickly doing the same task, so it would seem that they got the heat treatment right on this knife.

I've had my AK101 for a few months and I love it. I didn't realize about the serial numbers. I have 017 on mine with "Taiwan" labelling on the blade.
