GSO 2.7 passaround and signup thread

knife is en route to hunterjrg

I am in the process of putting together the review.

Here are some pics of the attachments I sent along (also has the factory clip):

Pocket-clip attachment: this is nothing but a NiteIze eCLIPse stuck to a scrap of 0.093 kydex that happened to be already bent and punched in a way that fit. Making more that are better wouldn't be difficult. This one actually rides a bit higher than I would prefer, but I was limited by the holes already punched. If I made another, fresh, I would make it a bit taller so that it can ride deeper when mounted to the top of the sheath, and ride shallower when mounted lower-down on the sheath.
But this is for the factory sheath. Azwelke (or Hale Storm) could probably make you a slimmer taco-sheath with a color-matched "L" attachment (like my shortened UKE seen below) to improve pocket-carry, or make something very similar to this:

Modified UKE (shortened on both legs - just cutting down a standard UKE won't give you quite the same thing, but it'd be close, I'll have pictures of the 2.7 with a full UKE in my review) with AB3 clip

It seems like the 2.7 can be a love it or hate it sized blade, I'd like to get it into some people's hands so they can decide if it's right for them or not. I don't mean to be a snob but I would like to get it back in one piece at some point so I'll keep it limited to members of the S!K subforum who've gotten their Survivor! numbers and other people I know and trust from elsewhere. If I feel like we can open it up to more people I hope everyone can respect that it will be completely at my discretion. Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings here. I have a half assed idea of some rules for the passaround, if I'm missing anything obvious please let me know.

Rules-

Please don't keep the knife for more than a week or so. If you get busy and don't have time to do anything more than butter your bread that's fine, life happens. This is for you to take a gander and decide if you like it. If you're doing a hardcore review and need more time just post it up and let us know. Looking at you chiral/Chamdar (Grolim priests still scare me:( ), you can take all the time you want. Let's just be respectful of everyone else involved.

For timeliness sake and the hope that I see this lovely knife again this is only open to people who can ship within the US. When you ship it, ship it insured via USPS for the value of the knife and PM or email me the tracking number. Communicate it to the next recipient as well. I paid $165 for it but that was on the secondary market, as long as it's at least $125(S!K's price) I'm happy. If you participate you are responsible for the knife while it's in your mitts.

I'll start a '2.7 Passaround Review' thread. If you participate please post your thoughts. No fanboy'ism needed, if you hate it let everyone know why. The minimum I think would be expected for an honest 'user' review would be carving a try stick http://www.karamat.com/trystick.pdf for woodscrafty stuff or any use in processing game. If you don't have time to do more than spread some peanut butter that's cool, let us know what your general thoughts are.

If you dull the knife.. you kick ass! Sharpen it at your discretion and post up what you did and used. If you're not comfortable sharpening it you can send it back to me, send it to S!K to sharpen, or maybe you can convince one of the sharpening gurus on here to do some work on it. We have some exceptional blade menders here. I don't care if I get it back dull as a brick but I might think some rude thoughts in your general direction.

I have a list in my head, but my head is awash in a bit of booze, don't be upset if I forget you please. This is just a preliminary invite list, all Survivor members are welcome to jump in. If you're mentioned here you're in, just let me know and I'll get to shipping. Chiral, I hope you don't mind being nominated to go first.

chiral.grolim- First up, your reviews kick some serious booty. Send me your address and please kick this baby off.
Silver Needle- You're the voice of the S!K forum man.
Texas toothpick- No new purchases for you, but you can mess around with this one!
Hard Knocks- Always a pleasure man.
forte_defense- You have a new 4.1 to measure it against!
OBX351- You have all the damn knives, if you already have this one no worries :)
Hale Storm- Pocket sheath for this baby would be awesome.
Fancier- New 2.7 thread starter!
Riz!- You must have a billion knives or so, good perspective [emoji14]
Redwood22- Look into my eyes.. you will.. post.. more. [emoji106]
McVeyMac- You have some sweet knives to compare it against.
GreyFalcon, tinbanger, Riverrunner, pjandyho, Skrapmetal, Flsurfer, etc. Jump on in. Casino and coiled, you rock but I bought this off you guys :p.
People that aren't regulars on the forum that I'll include are bmurray(Bob, get off the Fiddleback board!), Slade (dude literally has a wall of knives!) and scout1sg (Jim bought me lunch at the nearby truck stop and didn't blink when a crackhead wandered up on us while we were talking knives in the parking lot).

If you're interested, post in this thread and/or PM or email me. The list above is just wishful thinking on my part. I have to reiterate, YOU are responsible for contacting me and the next member when you ship the knife.

1- Chiral - I nominated you first, sorry man. That's what you get for doing such awesome reviews!

"and scout1sg (Jim bought me lunch at the nearby truck stop and didn't blink when a crackhead wandered up on us while we were talking knives in the parking lot)."

Shoot I missed this the first time I read it over, hey I figured we had plenty of steel to defend ourselves if things went south (lol)...

Good deal. I'll keep an eye out. I'm taking an extended weekend to my property tonight into Monday evening. Wish I'd known you were shipping. I could have just picked it up from you on my way. Maybe it will come before my wife leaves and she could bring it with her.

Crud, i should have thought of that!! Well, I was hoping it would arrive tomorrow, but the tracking link doesn't show that they have even bothered scanning it yet :( Either way, hope you have a good weekend  You really drive this far west on weekends?

By the way, while I restored the edge after the devastation of the metal cutting, you may still feel the need to touch it up on arrival.

Regarding Silver, one may note that he is another Wisconsin fan of S!K, sending the knife to him 3rd would shorten the delivery time from hunterjrg... ( just pulling for you, Silver ;) )

Your halfway or so. My place is out of Boscobel just off the WI River. Sometimes I take Hwy 14 and sometimes 18.

I'd be more than happy to drop off the knife to Silver. My parents have land in the NE woods and I need to pick up a fridge from them.

Aw, you guys! Just look at us Wisconinites sticking together :)

Really though, if there's a way for you guys to get that 2.7 where it needs to be without the middle man, I'm all for it!

You guys are as thick as 'cheese' lol ;)

The 2.7 arrived in time for my wife to bring it with her. First impression is what a cute little knife. Perfect size for chores around my property. I really like it. My only dig on it would be poor balance. Noticeably heavier on the handle side. Milling a hollow on the inside of the handle material might do wonders on it. More to come

Dan I'd be happy if I could just fondle it the next time I pass by your way (that is if it's not already half way across the country in someone else's possession at the moment, lol)

As long as it involves more biscuits and gravy you know it!

Please email or PM me a color and the next testers address and we will get one out in the next few days.
Thanks
Al

I hope someone takes Al up on this generous offer and shoots him a PM. The sheath is too wide for a little knife like that.

Hahaha! I just noticed this!

I know I shied away from your original and very generous offer, but if it means that much to you, you could bump me up to 352 or 353 :D

No! No soup for you!

If you can do a hand off skip the order by all means, save some dough!

I know what you mean about the balance but for a full handle and short blade like it has I'm not sure how it could be lightened enough. Hope you have some fun with it!

I messed up quoting chiral's setup with the NiteEyes clip, but that looks like a nice rig for it.

Haha!

I'm curious how the balance is of the steel without the handle slabs. Does that achieve perfect balance? The blade is so short compared to the handle, just from seeing pics I'm a little skeptical of that even.

The sheath is inbound from Azwelke. 👍 Having owned one of his sheathes already I have no doubts his sheath will be a perfect match for the little 2.7

I am still working on the write-up and editting the videos i made, but here is a shot of the knife with cord-wrap instead of scales:

The G10 is also heavier than micarta, so balance may be better for folk with micarta scales. However, on a knife this small and light such balance may not be as important. One thing i will say is that the extra weight of the scales gives it a little more power on a throw :D

Oh, and this cord-wrap happened to still fit in the sheath reasonably well, which surprised me:

Thanks, Chiral! You really thought of everything. The cord wrap is a great idea for this tiny knife.

Even though the handle is skeletonized, I really thought the difference in handle length to blade length would always make it handle heavy. I can't believe I was wrong. That has never happened before.

I'm leaving for a youth deer hunt with my son on October 5th at 8am. If you want me to process a deer with it, I'll need it by 10/4 at the absolute latest. Otherwise it's fine with me if you want to skip me on the list... I probably won't have much to add aside from this use.

I know the area we're hunting pretty well, and there is a great chance he will get another doe this year. I thought game processing would be pretty cool for a pass around test.

That would be fantastic for the passaround. If I get the G10 handled one this week I'll get it to you ASAP. Ellie said it was almost ready but it sounds like Guy has been training a new helper, we'll see.

I just got home and a package from Azwelke was waiting for me. 👍
