Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

Those rr peanuts are mighty fine! I got one recently and it's real good except for some pretty uneven edges. Easy enough to fix though.

Just got this RR Half Hawk in Tobacco Bone about 3 days ago. Was really impressed with the quality for the money.

Frankster -

These are nice. I reground mine into a clip point (from just in front of nail nick to current point) and now it is basically a lockback barlow.

Mine is in old yella. Great knife and sharper than the dickens out of the box.
That smooth bone looks good.

I sure appreciate it. I've been rather happy with the quality for the price point. Mine had a wire edge out of the box but DMT stones and a strop helped resolve that issue. She is as sharp as I will ever need now

252chevyboyz, that's a nice looking half hawk.. I don't have that one yet.

Three new ones arrived yesterday [emoji41]

First is a small 3" split back whittler. With great looks, but one small flaw: the nail nick for the primary disappears behind the secondary pen blade. I can probably fix this by lowering the secondary a bit, it has some room left to do that.

Next is a 3" congress (whittler?) With a great swedge on the main blade and half stops on the secondary pen blades.

The last but not least, a 3 1/4" green checkered gunstock bone stockman. The checkered bone had a nice and grippy feel. Normally when I grab a knife, the touch of the jigging doesn't really register. But each time I pick this on up my fingers scream 'checkered bone!' [emoji4]

Nice collection you got going there. The tobacco bone is one of my favs for sure. I've been surprised on how it held an edge cutting under brush yesterday

Great for cutting your teeth on mods too. Here's a baby sunfish with a nice thin regrind on the main, reduced to a single blade with an EZO notch for good measure. These things tend to be nail breakers. Softened the spring a little too but of course you can't see that.

Excellent work. Looks great. I immagine the carbon fiber bolsters and Easy Open Notch dropped a lot of weight.
On the baby sunfish I had the secondary was the nail buster. Even afer cleaning and flushing the joint, it was still around a 12 or 13 pull. The main dropped to maybe an 8 or 9. I don't like fighting my knives, so I traded it off for a vintage "Made in USA" no name jack knife and a Case trapper sheath. The tapper sheath deforms a little, but fits my large RR sunfish.

Thanks. Bolsters are actually green canvas, but yes losing the nickel and extra blade plus spring has it very light.

I had 30 some RR's at the first of 2016. I was looking over my collection yesterday and not a single RR left I must have given them all away last year. Guess it's time to make a order.

Mark Nice trio there, like the Congress Whittler in particular. You a Bee-Keeper? I've always been fascinated by that.:)

252 Damn fine Hawk you have, great looking workhorse for sure:cool:

Thanks, Will
