Photos A Walk in Nature

Nice knife Jose ! The handle's beautiful blond horn stands out.
I could use some golden sand beaches and sun right now as well :)

But I can't complain; winter has its own beauty.

Although not strictly nature per se I thought I would share some pictures we took today of the Rideau Canal.
I have shared many of my boating adventures over the years on this amazing waterway that extends from Kingston On all the way to Ottawa.

This is how it looks now in downtown Ottawa ❄️⛸️ as it meanders through beautiful parks and historic buildings.
The largest skating rink in the world !

We had a wonderful day and enjoyed ourselves as we glided over the ice covering a total distance of about 16 km ( 10 miles )

What is that castle looking building in the background of the first photo? John

It’s the Château Laurier, a historic hotel close to the Parliament building.

I just checked their rates, a little more than $200 CAD for their most basic accommodations and up to more than $600 a night for their fancy rooms.

I’d rather stay in my “Serena” 😊

Thank you very much, Dan.👍
I really appreciate all the pictures and knives you posted, they are amazing.;)

Was away in southern Spain over New Year.

First time I've been away that time of year. I confess - I felt guilty............walking around in the sun, blue skies, having fun while UK froze.

Anyhoo...........one day we decided to walk the Caminito Del Rey gorge.

A journey to the riverbank last weekend proved time well spent.
Much of the Mississippi River in Quincy, Illinois was covered in ice. Not so below the lock & dam, and these guys were enjoying the fishing while I enjoyed the shooting. Photo shooting of course.

All Smiles...

There are times there are three times as many Bald Eagles in this stand of trees at the water's edge.

There were 50+ Bald Eagles - Juveniles and Adults - working the waters below the dam on this day. Note the nest across the river, about 3/4 of the way from left to right in the photo.

Along with a Buck 303 Redbone in my pocket, and a Victorinox red cellidor Huntsman on my hip, this new arrival accompanied me on this day.
Victorinox - 85mm Evolution Wood 10 - Kreiskommando Solothurn - after the first application of mineral oil to the walnut scales. It will likely get a second application tomorrow. I'm lovin' those walnut scales.

Six relaxing miles along the canal this morning. Mostly hard packed snow, but also some ice. Onlookers, had there been any, would have been amused at my arm-flailing near-spills as I encountered the slick spots…

Finally found a suitable stick on my way back downstream, and sharpened one end to hopefully get a little purchase on the ice.

Wow! And surrounded by such natural beauty. That Case is pretty easy on the eyes too, I might add. Which model number would that little beauty be anyway Tom?

Its the 6375 CS with “Amber Bone” - more of a plus-size beauty…
Umm, now that you mention it... I believe that might be classified as the big step-brother to my Medium Stockman. Yours is CS and mine is CV.
I got this one from Smokey Mountain after the TSA snagged my 10 Dot Case. GRRR! I had placed that knife on the back of my chest of drawers four days before leaving, so I wouldn't get caught with it. The next thing I knew I was searching myself to see what was making that stupid alarm go off at O'Hare. Old habits are hard to break.

I don't carry this one much because it is just a smidgen large for pocket comfort. I'll likely break it out again before the year is over though. I love that Amber Bone. Am I reading the tang stamp correctly? Is mine a 2004?

Oh no!
The only time I tried to take my knife through security was at the courthouse, so I didn’t lose the knife - I just said “oops” when I saw it in the basket, went outside and stashed it in the bushes (like I usually did before going in…), then went back through security.

Interesting. 3-5/8”? I would consider a knife that size to be a little on the small side, even.
Am I reading the tang stamp correctly? Is mine a 2004?
A quick glance at a tang stamp chart seems to corroborate that, but I’m no expert.

A few days ago I went cross country skiing in a beautiful winter wonderland

Goofing around, taking some pics to send my daughter far away in college. We skied these trails countless times while she was growing up.

I brought along my White River Caper.
I debated at first if this knife was traditional or not.

This particular model is pinned construction and traditional in every way as far as I can observe so I felt it would be ok to post here ( I am not posting the definitely NOT traditional kydex sheath however I am planning to make a leather sheath for it )

Today I went skiing in a horrendous winter blizzard LOL 😄
It was either that or let cabin fever slowly kill me

My vehicle got stuck in the snow a couple times but luckily I was able to make it out of the forest and back home safely.

I had gone earlier in the day with my regular skis and it was a no go in the deep snow and ungroomed trails.

Then I remember that I had backcountry skis ( fatter and shorter ) and backcountry boots ( heavier and warmer ) that I had not used in more than 10 years so back to the forest I went with my long forgotten gear

I found some day old ATV tracks that had somewhat packed the snow and it made it a bit easier to ski.
I picked the middle one and got going

A "short" video is worth a thousand pics lol

Skiing was made easier on my way back as I had my previous tracks to follow

Looks like quite an adventure, my friend :D:thumbsup:. Glad you didn’t get lost in a whiteout…

I was a lot less brave today - temps were warm, but it was raining cats and dogs all morning. I only ventured out to go the hardware store and the office supplies store (after spending 3 hours preparing my taxes 😫😫).
