Photos A Walk in Nature

Shame on me Will !!! ☺️
Never again, I promise !
(well technically it was not a walk, more like shuffling on xc skis :D)

I am pretty certain it was a coyote.

Funny thing is than when I first saw it from way further back I thought it was a dog with its xc skier human master somewhere nearby ( I've seen skiers bring along their dogs for a run in the forest before).

As I got closer and gazed up again I realized it was no dog 😲 !!!

I am with you regarding unruly, even violent big dogs and their owners that have almost no control over them. This was becoming an issue at a local park. It seems to have improved lately. That is why I made a few walking sticks out of local hardwoods and would bring them with us when walking our little puppy.

They are adapting more and more to human presence around here as well.
Here also have been some reports of coyotes taking small dogs and cats.

I remembered your post while on the trail today after the coyote encounter Tom :cool:
I thought my sighting was not that bad really when considering you had to sleep in the woods with coyotes howling and yipping all around.
Did you used the pee trick around your tent ? :D

Amazing how they can adapt !!!

Thanks for sharing the magic Ray !

I have read about this hybrid coy/wolves becoming more common in some parts of Canada as well.
Next time I should bring my big puñal criollo ( or at least my Verijero ) :)

THey are calling for steady temps above freezing during the day and below freezing at night from now on.
Perfect maple syrup weather.🍁

Today was more than likely my last ski of the season.

Here is my wolf-descendant :)
He still thinks in his mind he is a big wolf for sure. Fearless little rascal.

Handsome pair... Little Wolf & Little Rattler.

A week ago we were kick sledding on the ice trails.

Today we kicked some more alright but on our trusty “Xootr” steeds instead.

We covered 10 miles ( 16 km ) on the “Long Sault Parkway” , a scenic road connecting islands created by the construction of the St Lawrence Seaway.

Our trusty steeds 😎
( someone looks quite busy in the background 🦫)

Today was a good day. We spent about 4 hours out at Siloam Springs state park. My first time in the woods in over 2 years. We weren’t able to go very far but it was still a nice day out. Hope to work on more getting into the woods. Also want to try to get rid of the burgundy 4x4.

We started with a little picnic by the lake.271C1B02-1157-4A6D-AA90-D29163C35DFE.jpegF9BA5DF7-4B73-459E-8CE8-800BDA62E1E5.jpegFA7574B7-AC14-480D-8065-9216806974C1.jpeg19608F0B-AB16-4F33-89CB-6A8E1BA7E7BD.jpeg42D81D04-8E7B-4F58-B4D6-B085F4DC6D28.jpegB208F396-961A-42C5-98F4-2692FD2FBBFB.jpegB4842BFA-3C39-4373-93C3-0209B822216E.jpeg

Siloam Springs... Hey, that's in my neighborhood. Beautiful place to hike. Glad to hear you were able to get out. Two years is a long time to stay out of the woods. You might need to equip ol' Burgundy with some off-road tires though, if you wish to head up that little feeder creek. By the way, how does one find that stream of water anyway? I see a couple of nice Bucks went along, and someone was putting one of them to use. May God bless you, and your loved ones.

Thank you. If your familiar with Siloam Springs it’s back by the archery range. It’s right at the beginning of the trailhead for the Red Oak trail. Honestly just maybe 10 off the path.

When all the kids were still at home went spent a lot of time out there camping and hiking. I love it out there.

Thanks for the information. I've not made it back that far yet, but will check it out in the future. It seems the trail maps the state provides are lacking. Oh well, I suppose it just adds to the Daniel Boone experience, eh? Of course, I likely would tote something a bit smaller than his Bowie.

It’s the first turn off to the right as your going down the hill towards where the gazebo and park are.

Nice !
Hoping you enjoy many more days like it this year !!!

Here in Eastern Ontario it was "in like a lamb 🐑and out like a lion 🦁" for old man winter.
Last night and today we got hit by a snow storm. Tomorrow they are calling for freezing rain 😲
I just came from clearing the white crap from our driveway lol

Totally different from the extended warm weather we got to enjoy last fall late into the season when I got to sail and take two trips into late October.

First trip was to Georgian Bay.
Trip summary:

Drive 7 hours.
Arrive a day early from the rest of the trip participants, explore the area.
Meet the most wonderful group of "fair weather" sailors :) on the second day.
A big storm approaches on the third day , everyone leaves except for "British/Canadian Dave" who stayed with "Argentine/Canadian Dan to brave the storm.
Dave and Dan survive, Dave leaves on the fourth day.
Dan stays for a fifth day to explore solo some more :)

First night

I went for a hike around Fairy Lake on my first day. I got lost several times as I was too busy taking pictures lol

Love these little box homemade plywood boat that sowed up on the second day.

Night before the storm. All is calm.

The next morning I noticed the waters receding VERY noticeably by several feet. I was told it is caused by a low pressure system over the lake, sign of the impending storm.

Before the storm hit the water came back rather fast. We took shelter in a gazebo on the island. Storm turned out to be not that bad after all ( on solid ground that is :) )

On my last night in Georgian Bay I made a roaring fire to keep warm and help pass the time. Sunsets very early which means many more hours spent inside Serena. The fire allowed me to stay out a lot longer.

On my last trip I stayed very closed to home. Navigated about 50 km downstream on the St Lawrence. I even met my wife and daughter at a little beach on the second day while they were going out for a walk and we had a little picnic.
The last night I slept in a beautiful spot I had never explored before close to the bird sanctuary where I meet my chickadee friends. The sound and calls of waterfowl all around me was very loud that evening.

Dreaming once again of new adventures :)
