Thanks Dan. I'm also jealous of your side of the country! Need to do a trade and show each other around. One of these Summers we'll come to you, and then on another one you come to us

Figured since we're on vacation, it was a perfect Monday for some hiking without all the crowds weekends bring out.

Have to love the hike starting with this sign, but we're used to it around here. Make noise while walking, be alert, and carry bear spray.

Wife let me stop for a couple knife photos, but when she'd had enough, that was enough

Hike started out with a bit of a climb up to a lake.

It was still pretty cool, so there were a ton of bugs out, and the fish were jumping so much it looked like the water was boiling!

From there we carried on down the trail to a nice little waterfall. View from above

Headed back towards the lake, but went around the other side to take a turnoff up to a glacier

Taking a break - Bit of a climb here.

Felt like I was walking to Mordor

Got up to where the glacier used to come to. It's receded quite a bit in recent years.

The view back where we came from - A bit smokey from the fires, but overall still a great day.

And just a bit windy up there...

Last stop of the day at another waterfall fed form the glacier

Do you know how to tell the difference between black bear poop and grizzly bear poop?
Grizzly bear poop smells like pepper spray and has little bells in it.

Esperanza had a different tone of red back then.

I had cleaned some blue gills the evening before ( note some of the white scales on the ground) and the next morning we had a visitor
The knife is my African Rosewood Lambsfoot, generous gift of Jack Black .

Wow, I’ve seen pics you posted from years past that looked quite different when it comes to grass and vegetation.
I don’t know about the weather patterns in your area but I hope this very dry condition is over soon as it’s surely affecting your ranch operations and cattle.
Modoc ED also shared some pics of how dry everything is in his region.

Yep, three years ago we had 48 plus inches of rain, the most ever recorded here. This year ( the water year starts Oct 1 and goes to the end of Sept), we’ve had 6.37 inches. Not sure what my cows are eating, dirt and rocks I guess but they look good. We do run our place at about 70 percent of capacity and we have a very aggressive vitamin/mineral supplement program so that helps.
