SO many more but for another time ~
That is awesome! As much as I love 'eating' typical store bought mushrooms, I've never learned about them and have this innate fear that I'll die as soon as I touch them 😁

My wife is German and she grew up mushroom picking with her family and have no such fear. So I let her take care of cooking lol.

I leave the food harvesting to my wife too euroken euroken . I'm just the photographer. We eat well though. Several fresh wild mushroom dishes this week already. All delicious.
Cheers to all great wives, husbands, significant others out there. I’d be less than half the man I am with out her.:thumbsup:

Almost forgot…those who look the other way with their knife habits also 😁

Went fishing today. Had to navigate a steep muddy slope to get to some rocks where I could cross to an island (and from there to rocks in the main channel). Slid the last few feet down in a somewhat less than graceful glissade, and got covered in mud in the process. Went home a few hours later muddy, sweaty, itchy, thirsty, fish-less, and slightly sunburnt. A perfect morning :D.

River was pretty low:

Thanks, guys, but I was not being sarcastic when I said it was a perfect morning :D.

I have never been a very good or dedicated angler. I only just recently started fishing again after a pause of a couple of decades, but even when I did it regularly, it was only ever just an excuse to goof off around the river. Yesterday’s outing was a complete success in that regard :cool:.

A few photos from my hike on Saturday

Thanks for sharing the beautiful vistas that you saw yesterday Jack
Cool pics of the Red Kite , your new knife that you won in Glen's recent GAW and of course, your beloved HHB
It's great to go on virtual hikes around the world along with Porch friends :)

Yes, I agree Tom, time outside in nature is always a success :)

I am not a very good or dedicated angler either. My utter exhilaration at catching a couple "big ones" in a few posts back probably gave it away lol :)

I used to take my Mom fishing about 10-12 years ago when she lived with us.
We bought some equipment, I talked to local people and watched you tube videos lol.

We did have some success and we caught mainly perch and a few nice walleyes ( pickerel ). I had to learn how to clean fish too, YouTube helped again and practice of course.

Then she moved away and it was only last years that I got "hooked" on fishing again.
We were cruising the Rideau and I had brought with me some old fishing tackle .

I got up at 5 am the first night and threw a 10 year old plastic worm in the water and BANG, wow, the adrenaline, I was hooked LOL

My memory is awful when it comes to knots so this year I had to review a few of the common fishing knots AGAIN lol.

Incidentally my Mom is visiting us this week. She saw the pics of the two "lunkers" 😂lol and she has been telling me that we BETTER catch some good ones this week..... which has me under a LOT of pressure !!!

I sort of know how to fish in the Rideau Canal but here at home in the big Saint Lawrence I am always sort of lost as to how to and where to go.

I even thought about investing in a fish finder to help our chances of success or find an experienced angler that can take us to some spot for some "guaranteed" catch.

If we have no luck there is a also place that has just opened close to us for trout fishing in a huge privately owned pond.
You pay a fee to get in and then pay per pound of fish caught, they even clean the fish for you, so that's my plan B :cool:

Thanks Dan, there are a lot of Red Kites in the area I was walking in, but we saw most of them while we were eating our lunch. They move a lot faster than I do though, and were a bit far away for my simple camera

Figured since we're on vacation, it was a perfect Monday for some hiking without all the crowds weekends bring out.

Have to love the hike starting with this sign, but we're used to it around here. Make noise while walking, be alert, and carry bear spray.

Wife let me stop for a couple knife photos, but when she'd had enough, that was enough ;)

Hike started out with a bit of a climb up to a lake.

It was still pretty cool, so there were a ton of bugs out, and the fish were jumping so much it looked like the water was boiling!

From there we carried on down the trail to a nice little waterfall. View from above

Headed back towards the lake, but went around the other side to take a turnoff up to a glacier

Taking a break - Bit of a climb here.

Felt like I was walking to Mordor

Got up to where the glacier used to come to. It's receded quite a bit in recent years.

The view back where we came from - A bit smokey from the fires, but overall still a great day.

And just a bit windy up there...

Last stop of the day at another waterfall fed form the glacier

15km out and back to the car. Fun day, but think tomorrow will be a beach day :)
