Photos A Walk in Nature

Hope you guys/gals with plenty of water appreciate it. On the way to town today, I drove by Dorris Reservoir (one of the biggest in our area) and this is the state it's in. Notice the family of geese (mom & dad with three young ones) having just left their nest and heading for the nearest water. Normally every thing brown in this picture is covered with water. We are in a full blown drought. I had a knife in this picture but hat to edit it out to give a better picture of what's going on out here.

They even had to put a No Off Roading sign up to keep the idiots off.
That’s shocking Ed, we do have lots of water and seeing photos like this does give me a new appreciation for it. I hope you guys get some rain soon. 👍

We might get a tiny sprinkle every long once in awhile but nothing worth measuring until the mid-September to October time frame.
I can’t imagine what it must be like for you guys. The only drought of any consequence we’ve had was years ago when it didn’t rain much from around mid May to late August I think. Nothing compared to what you guys are going through.

Visited Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore yesterday, it wasn’t great weather but still worth it and the views were still pretty good.

For those of you that haven’t been there, here is how you are greeted when you get to the dune. 😳

This was our view when we first got to the edge of the dune.

Then it began to clear up pretty quickly and turned into this view.

Even though I said I wasn’t going down the dune, my curiosity got the best of me and I “Poked the Bear!” That’s my daughter on the left and I’m to her right, the other folks were on their way back up.

My wife and son were at the top taking the pictures. We didn’t go all the way down, just about halfway, and I’m glad we didn’t. It was hard climbing back up but what I didn’t expect was the vertigo I was experiencing as we were standing on the face of the dune and looking out over the water. It’s hard to explain but you’re standing at an angle, looking down at the beach and when you look straight ahead all you see is water and when you look up all you see is water, really weird.

The guy on the left was literally crawling a few feet at a time. He must have gone all the way down, because the whole time we were on the dune he never even made it halfway back up.
After getting back up to the top we went to the observatory platform to look back at where we had been.

If you look close you can see the guy crawling up. This was a great experience and I highly recommend it!👍

bigfish64 bigfish64 Thanks for sharing!

This reminds me of a sand dune hike at Cape Kiwanda in Oregon. Not as high of a climb and I've seen high school sports teams to come out there to train :) With sun on your back and sand that is roasting hot around noon, makes you hustle up :D

There were people there talking about how yesterday was the perfect day because the sand was wet and cool, and it was mostly cloudy at the time. 😊

Those are a couple of awesome (in the true sense of the word) spots. Never knew such existed. Reminds me of a movie (Japanese - I think) from a while back, story was about people imprisoned in a huge sand hole. They could go about life in their huts with some comfort but could never climb out of the pit. Was quite an amazing concept to me. I'd like to think I would climb down to the lake and back bigfish64 bigfish64 but will never know. The longer I wait the less likely...

My restless soul is on the move again 😊

This afternoon my ladies dropped me off at a boat ramp on Cranberry Lake, close to Kingston ON.
I explored the lake for a while, fished nothing then headed for Upper Brewers Lock where I am camping/sleeping tonight.

Pictured is my new Brother knife that was waiting for me at home when I returned last Tuesday.

You are giving your lady folk their long awaited Dancation aren't you Dan? ;)

Lol , it’s sorta true 😁 ( I have to remember Dancation for future use 😂)

Last week’s adventure did me a lot of good.
I accomplished more at work upon returning in 3 days than what I would do in a week or more.
I had been feeling burnout as of late.

Now that our oldest daughter is away for while it also gave my wife and our youngest daughter a chance to bond more and do things together.

So here I am, on a “mini” “little adventure “ for the weekend 👍😎

Went on a 6 mile (round trip) hike with the fam to the Denny Creek Trail near Snoqualmie pass here in WA.

The trail cuts under I-90 and it feels like a scene from a sci-fi movie...

Didn't get to the Alpine Lakes (I would have had to carry my kids back down lol) but all in all was a fantastic day out with the kids!
