Someone just escaped from “Waterworld”

Oh my goodness... that was so funny!!! 🤣

So folks , it’s almost 10:30 pm and I just finished setting up and fixing the BIG mess I had inside the tent.

I should have done it earlier but I was busy posting on BF 😂

But here is also why.
Around 8 pm I went for a little fishing.

After wetting the line here and there I decided to throw the lure inside the lock.

Then BANG !

TRsCI38.jpg

It hit hard and put a show stopping fight.
What made harder was that there was only maybe 3 feet of water inside so I had to haul it up to the top.

I saw a couple big shadows in the water the moment it hit… it had company!

The limit is two per day so I threw a new lure.

After a few minutes another BANG however the fight was short lived.
The first one had put a lot of twist in the line and it snapped.

I tried a bit more with a new line and caught a small one.

Now I had to hurry go get them cleaned

My Grohmann sees first blood… finally lol
It was good for that initial cut behind the head , then I switched to fillet knife

I salted it and put in in ice.
I should have a couple big meals tomorrow.
I then jumped in the river (it was dark already) to wash off the sweat and fish smell lol and finished washing up in the bathroom

Anyhoo 😂 I better go to sleep now lol 💤

Beautiful morning !
All packed up to leave for Colonel By Island, a distance of about 14 km.

The “Narrows” lock is in between here and the island.

Today’s carry is my Maserin Plow, generous gift from Reaper AL Reaper AL 😊

The tails of it’s lanyard point to where I am now, it’s tip to the Island.

Dan, you sure do it right. Can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying these posts! 😎👍

Well this picture answers one other nagging question I had…

Which question Tom ? , please don’t keep me in suspense 😎
Is it about the fish? the boat ? The grill 😁 ?

Strongly done all around CelloDan CelloDan ! Especially with the yerba mate 💪

Thank you my friend, yes yerba mate
makes it special ( i am running very low, only left for one more time )

Dan, you sure do it right. Can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying these posts! 😎👍
Gracias Todd, so happy you are enjoying my little adventure, is fun to share it too

Really enjoying following your trip Dan, thanks for taking us along! It looks like a great way to spend a week and the areas provided for over nights look to make it a nice journey.
Gracias mi amigo 😊

I arrived safely at Colonel By Island after a 3 hour trip 👍

Pic updates of the exciting journey later today 👍😊

Departing Newboro.
This is the summit of the whole system.

In order to connect Newboro Lake with Upper Rideau Lake a canal had to be cut in the bedrock, a monumental task in the early 1800’s

In the connecting canal with my knife content 😎

Windy conditions in the lake.
Esperanza’s very long waterline and sound design handles well 👍

Arriving at the Narrows Lock

Just as I arrived the were closing the lock doors to send a few boats on their way.

Time to walk around a bit while we wait our turn

Looks like the lock masters had to able to defend the post.
A blockhouse at the lock

The swing bridge opens. It’s very cool, they insert this metal pole in a hole in the bridge, the pole has two “arms” that a person grabs and starts pushing walking in circles

It’s crowded !
The lock master asks me if I don’t mind going in the middle of two big boats

Continuing on Big Rideau Lake.

I just checked Wikipedia and is a very deep lake, up to 360 feet. Wow

People tell me the are big lake trout here.

The headwind is still significant but Esperanza handles it like a champ.

This is were my GPS saved me today.

I thought Colonel By Island was still up ahead when I checked my GPS and realized that I was already passing the group of islands were my destination was.

I veered right and enter a narrow canal in between islands ( marked it in red, the blue dot is where I am now)

Suddenly I was transported into a totally different place, it was almost magical 👍
This route is only accessible by kayaks or small boats of course.
The big boats just go around the whole thing to reach our spot but also miss this

I am beat !
Aches, pains and just beat lol, I wish I was 20 again 😊

I managed to cook the rest of the fish but I ain't got not table and no fancy spread 😂

I know I will sleep well tonight 👍

Tomorrow is the last leg of the trip. About 25 km to Poonamalie Lock where my wife and daughter will hopefully be waiting to pick up my tired bones ,

I may still take Esperanza this evening for a ride inside the islands , if not I’ll do it tomorrow am before departing.

This morning is overcast with 50 percent chance of rain.

I am just chilling here for a little, drinking some yerba mate 🧉 before I start packing to get underway.
It feels good 👍

Last night was a bit rough however.
Black flies and mosquitoes are an issue here in the evening but I could deal with that.

I was just so tired I did not bother to hook up my CPAP to the battery and I just crashed ( hoping my snoring would keep critters away LOL 😂 )

Around midnight I heard something outside the tent, sounded like a busy critter was determined to go through my stuff, bumping into the tent.

I thought maybe I was dreaming because when I don’t wear my cpap I have vivid dreams.

So I got up, brought in my fishing tackle box and a few more things, put the cast iron pan that I used to cook fish far from the tent, hook up my cpap, put the garbage bag in the middle of the tent, donated some more blood 🩸 to mosquitoes and went back to sleep 😴

Whatever that was came back a couple more times 🤨 but I finally fell asleep 💤

But things are good this morning.

I just spoke to my wife to make arrangements for pick up time at Poonamalie Lock wich will take me about
3 hours to get there

Good morning Porch 😊
Last evening I did manage to go out on Esperanza and explore the inner lagoon a bit.
Black flies put a slight damper on my reverie however it was worth it ;)😊
