So the daily carry has been decided.

Way too many knives LOL, but they'll keep me company :) ( and "Esperanza" has plenty of room )
( and comfort me in case I hear banjos ๐Ÿ˜ )

PS:
Just now my daughter asked me " Are you posting in the forums ? "
to which my wife replied : "Yes, he is probably bragging about his adventure " LOL
๐Ÿ˜‚

See you on the other end! Stay safe - all the best to you for a great and peaceful little adventure.

After the 3 locks there is a basin where I am camping tonight.
Tomorrow am Iโ€™ll have to go through one more lock to escape the basin and get on my way.

Pictures of a walk around the basin

My tent is right across on the other side

I fish for a few minutes and caught several blue gills that I returned to the water
Tomorrow early I shall fish again and hopefully have a hearty fishy breakfast before getting underway.

Good night ๐Ÿ˜ด

Thanks everyone for the best wishes ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š
I am about to leave the basin as they are opening the lock for a big boat thatโ€™s coming through.

I post later today at next stopover if I have signal.

The lock masters used to live on site, a job sometimes passed down from generation to generation.

There may still be a couple still on site.

Locks operate on from 9 to 7 ( i think ).

They try to get a group together if possible as the lock masters radio each other with traffic reports etc but they will let you though even if you are the only one and no one else is close to arrive soon.

It took like 40 min yesterday to ho through 3 locks. The lock master has a bunch of kids working summer jobs to crank operate the locks manually just like in the 1800โ€™s

I was also wondering about lock operation. The waterway and campsites, the lock system, what a great thing to have available. Appreciate the pics :thumbsup:
I don't want to go too far off topic, but the description of the lock operation reminded me of the Peel Ferry on Table Rock Lake on the Missouri/Arkansas state line. They would prefer to take two or three vehicles at a time, but I believe I was the only passenger on this crossing. They didn't make me wait very long. Made me feel special ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

So I arrived at Chaffeys Lock for an 11 km trip. I had to go trough Davies Lock which is one the most remote ones.

No much cell signal here now but I found an unsecured wifi hotspot so Iโ€™ ll be quick lol

Glorious morning for a journey ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks for the info!

There is a lock house about 10 miles from my house that was inhabited by the same family from 1907 until 2006. You used to be able to rent canoes, rowboats, and bicycles there, and they also sold snacks and bait:

This shot looks like a bad hotel lobby oil painting:

Baby box turtle!

He was maybe 3โ€ long, max.
