Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes

Mr. Blond - thanks for all the work you put into this every year.

The Reinhold Rhino is one of the cooler prototypes I've seen.... can't wait until it hits production.

I like the blade on the Rhino, although I'm not a huge fan of the asymmetric handle scales.

And it's neat to see that the Rubicon (2?) keeps the orange backspacer.

That new Rubicon is quite nice, although the backspacer is a bit garish. What makes it CF-G10? I'm not sure what that actually means. Thanks.

It's mostly G10 with a layer of carbon fiber over the top.

This little cutter was tough to photograph for me at the meet. Still, I think I got some good shots in there, but others didn’t turn out as well as I hoped. I just love the fact that Spyderco seems to be the only company to put such a steel in what many consider to be ‘just a keychain knife’. Kind of like putting a Ferrari engine in a Mini Cooper.

This knife kept wanting to roll away from my lens and into the wrong angle for my lights. It was a very lightweight knife with surprising good ergonomics, for such a ‘straight’ design. This sample had a burr on the tip, but the Pattada is a very cool slender blade with the proverbial needle-like tip.

The Nirvana is highly anticipated by many, and even when I got to handle it for a second time now, it remains an impressive folding knife. The one-piece handle was relatively thin and felt reasonably ergonomic in my hands. Personally, I would prefer a satin finished blade. I’m in the minority however, considering the attention and admiration this knife got at the Meet and the IWA show in Germany a week later.

I actually got to see this little folding puukko last year, when it was shown as a concept model. This production sample of the Lil’ Nilakka was a cool gent’s folder. It was a bit hard to operate for me left-handed, but it is an appealing design. The blade was very sharp and with no guard to speak of, I’ll have to be careful not to cut myself when I finally own the production version.

NEED a Lil' Nilakka.

Whoever translated a puukko into a small gent's folder is a genius.

That 'Lil Nilakka is awesome! I would like the full size more if it had thinner scales like this. Wire clip is better too.

Probably my favorite thread every year. Spyderco designs a lot of cool stuff. While I know I will buy very little of it, I still want a visual taste.

The Pattada looks interesting to me. Blade kinda reminds me of the JD Smith.
