Howdy Forum. Since it is my first post, it should be two-fold. [1]My name is Drew, I'm 39, a home builder, and live in Gulf Breeze with my wife Shantee' + [5] young children. I enjoy buying, finding, collecting, restoring, sharpening, throwing, stropping, and just about everything else possible with blades. I am not that into folders these days but really enjoy the more rare and antique-type items. I have a fairly decent cache of hawks, cutlery, hand tools, swords, rattan sticks, and fixed blades of all types and history. Not by any conscious effort but I am never more than an arm's reach from some type of blade, and enjoy hand sharpening with varying techniques as a sort of stress relief. I enjoy listening/learning new things from other people, so I'm happy to come across this forum when randomly searching the web. Looks like a great site
[2] I received a box from an aunt that contained random items from my Grandfather's estate. Nothing of any monetary value, but plenty of sentimental value. A few mentionable that I remembered at his home though [luckly spared from his delta grinder MO in his last few years]: Buck 119 from 1955 in great condition and OG black leather sheath intact;t;-early Schrade-Walden H-15 w/ original sheath; a lot of Plumb ball peens and claw hammers in various weights; a Buck 470 and the twin mini I remember buying for him at Walmart in 1995 lol.
I was hoping to ID the brand or maker of the hatchet, just out of curiosity as it has no marks other than No.2 stamped on the cheek of one side. It's beaten up but I'll probably add it to my to-do pile. Lastly, thanks for the forum.
🤙

I've been wanting a nice jersey pattern for years. This one landed in my lap courtesy of a good neighbor. It's had some slight use but it's in great shape. We'll see if I still have any knack for hafting.

Hi. New here. Can anyone help me figure out the age and possible use of this axe?
Thanks. I bought it in Japan and it was sold as a woodcutting axe.

It looks like it was designed for anything but wood cutting. The closest match I can think of is a dane axe, but it can't possible be that old, and I can't see how it would have ended up in Japan.
Thanks!

looks like maybe a broad axe for flattening or shaping the sides of logs
