BladeForums 2024 Traditional Knife

You authorized the vendor to make a $10 withdrawal. You didn't authorize any further transactions so you should be able to dispute it. Using Paypal in no way gives the vendor carte blanche to make charges against your card without your permission. If your Paypal account is connected through a debit or credit card, you can also open a dispute with whoever issued the card.

What I learned today is that allowing the vendor to make a $10 withdrawal DOES authorize further transactions on the vendor's part. Apparently you enter into a relationship with the vendor at that point. It was eye opening.

More disturbingly, when the withdrawal was made, PayPal allowed my preferred method of payment to be changed from my credit card (with the protections if affords) to my old PayPal Credit account. It's all been pretty alarming.

I have my own horror story, but it doesn't take much looking to discover that PayPal operates in a number of alarming ways.

I only use it when there is is no other option available, as with BF forum knives and my city water bill. 🤦‍♂️

For $250 I thought it'd be something like shielded stag or Abalone.

Abalone does look good on these but today it would be prohibitively expensive.....

Yeah, I'm not too happy about the price increase either, just gotta pay to play now unfortunately. I'm just glad we're still getting one. Although a Stag, Abalone, or a shielded MOP would be amazing!
I also would love a punch in place of the spey blade, oh well, C'est La Vie...

At this point GEC could sandwich a cap lifter between two cow pies and there’d be people lining up to pay $250 for it 😂
Ha! I get what you mean. I know the flippers are drooling over the mere mention of a special edition. Unfortunately a lot of people are willing to pay that for pretty much anything they put out. Sometimes it seems they don't even really want the model, they just think GEC...MUST...BUY... 🙄

I was looking at some Case Abalone on Smokey Mountain Knifework…

It’s pricey nowadays! It is around $250 though, but Case is big enough that I image they can have lower prices than GEC I’d imagine.
There are different levels of abalone. The Case above from 1997 has large slabs of real abalone.
Its very hard to get that stuff now. The one in the link is pieced together from small bits of shell and is most likely just a thin layer with a clear acrylic cover over it. Thats what you get today.....

Are you serious? That's awful. Glad I didn't buy a new abalone case I guess...

Unfortunately yes. Still looks nice though, just nowhere near the same. Almost like the laminate "wood" handles some manufacturers use. It can look good but it's nowhere in the same league...

P.S. Don't feel bad TouhouFan TouhouFan , I just recently found out myself this past year or so about the different grades of Abalone & Mother Of Pearl 👍

Glad you told me, I would like real abalone if I'm on the hunt!
