Camillus and Schrade of Old Given Short Shrift Now-A-Days

I got this old Schrade out to admire over the weekend. The bone is cracked, falling apart, and missing a pin, but it still has very nice snap. I put a drop of oil in it and it got even better.
Depending on the missing pin part, you can always scrub it with a toothbrush & some hot & soapy water to get rid of any excess oils & gunk. Then blow it out with some compressed air to dry it off (if you don't have an air compressor the computer keyboard dusters work great) 👍🏻
If the gaps are too big you can put baking soda as a binder, be careful though, once the super glue touches the baking soda it will harden instantly. (I know from experience, I've even fixed some busted fingernails that way) old mechanics trick..
Some oil & fine steel wool can help clean up any excess rust or corrosion.
That is a great blade with another lifetime of work left in it 😉

A bit of super glue worked into the crack should prevent the loss of any of that cover, and cost much less than a recover with something that has inferior (to the original) jigging. A little worked under the cover where the pin is missing would help keep it together, too.

A Fantastic knife. A full blade from the looks of it, as well.
After taking care of the covers, if mine, I would touch up the edge by stropping or a stone as needed, and drop it in my pocket.

What is the closed length?
Yes, totally agree 👍🏻

That knife is worth saving as is!! Nearly full blade - good snap as you say!! Fishhunter above has got it right!!
Yes!!!
Although don't forget to "OIL THE JOINTS" 😉

I have super glue and even super thin superglue and I’ll stabilize the small cracks to keep it from getting worse. However, on the pile side, there is a jigsaw puzzle sized piece that has broken off from the center down to where a lower pin is missing. I’m happy to keep it like that because I like to flip the piece over and look at the sawcut grooves that you would never know were there.
I got the knife for free at a yard sale at this funky desert homestead. It had spent more than a few years in an old coffee can. Things don’t really rust here but the dryness takes its toll on bone.

I don't know what people use, but I've seen people repair larger missing pieces of bone with a putty looking substance... Maybe look into that?

Cold Wednesday, but feels like a Saturday, staying home, snow and freezing rain on the way. Schrade Ramrod kind of day! OH

1967(ish) very early production, serial numbers mixed with the Norm Thompson SFOs and the regular run of Old Timer 165s. This one is the best one that I have and you may not see another one soon, but who knows? The sheath is.... what can I say? Meanwhile, I have gotten word that Michael Little, one of the very most knowledgeable Schrade people, has been VERY ill and we are hoping for a complete and expedited recovery.
