Carothers and Guns

I was wondering if any of you have experience with D&L fixed sights for revolvers. I damaged the rear sight on my favorite 629 while felling trees, and the D&L replacement sight looks really stout with 3 holding screws. Reviews look great but wanted to see if any of you have used them.
Thanks for your time. Stay safe
Just an fyi- I sent Dave Lauck an email with a couple of questions about his sights and G10 beavertail grip. He called me within an hour of me sending the email (yes on a Sunday) to answer my questions and give some input. What a nice and informative guy! I ordered front/rear sights and a set of grips and he said he will ship them out in the morning. Looking forward to trying them out. 😀

Dave Lauck is one of the best for sure.

If you're going to carry the revolver you put them on I think you'll really like them. Great sights and some of the best snag free sights out there for revolvers. They are a BIG improvement over most factory sights.

Going on a 629 I carry in the woods. I am at the cabin right now and my wife texted that the package got delivered today. Really looking forward to putting the new grip and sights on and seeing how it does. Thank you for your input. After talking with him for just a few minutes I was convinced!

Are the DL sights expensive? I can’t seem to find any prices on his website?
The standard square notch rear is $95 which I think is reasonable considering the fit and having 3 screws. I went with the white night U notch and dot front simply for faster sight picture. I apologize for not knowing the exact upgrade prices- it seemed fair so I ordered it while talking with him and didn’t write it down.

I got the package from him today when I got home from the cabin. The grip is pretty amazing. I always loved a high ride beavertail on 1911’s but never thought about one on a revolver. I am going to open up the front a little as I wear gloves a lot when doing chores and when riding ATV or snowmachine.

I plan to get things mounted this weekend and try it out next week on a quick trip to the cabin to check on things. We have been having much more black bear activity than usual and some are getting bold showing up while I am there and being trouble-makers. One just tried breaking into the cedar outhouse by biting the sides and corners. I think the dramatic moose winter-kill has affected the bears diet some.

I cannot convey how great he was/is to deal with. There was no pressure to buy anything, and we talked about bears, Alaska, and shooting. He told me he is always available for questions and that he runs his business 7 days per week.

Please post pics when you have time! I wasn’t sure if you had to send in your revolver to get the sights fitted or they were Mae to just replace the ones on the revolver.

Also I was wondering if he does any mill work for like a Ruger 101 or J frame that have the u channel sights in the frame. I’d like to have rear sighs put on both of my guns like this. Both mine are in .357 and they both make great / last ditch backup revolvers for bears or anything else that goes bump in the night..

He sent them to me to install myself. He sent me some photos of his custom work and the guns look pretty amazing. I am sure he can do whatever you need! You might send him an email so you can talk with him. He offered to contour the grip for me but said since I have some woodworking tools I could do it myself.

I love revolvers!

Just an update- I installed the rear site easily and it fit perfectly. So perfectly that I need to tap it forward with a rubber mallet to get it in position. Since I don’t have a correct sized punch for the front site pin, or a drill press for more accurate drilling in the new sight for the pin, I dropped it off at Alaska Tactical for the owner to install for me.

I contoured the grip to allow more space for my little finger. They fit together beautifully and have a lanyard attachment tucked away. Some folks love lanyards when around water and some believe it is better to have one for bear defense in case it is dropped. I may try a coiled/retractable lanyard but I don’t want anything extra dangling when in the brush.

X model on steroids

Pretty much. This started out with the goal of building my perfect "camp gun," which needed to have a light and a red dot on it, chambered in a sufficient caliber to give larger critters a bad day, if needed (we have lots of grizz, etc where I live). The OEM forend on the X Mod offers minimal options for mounting a light the way I wanted to, and interfered with the sling. Turned out the easiest way to get what I wanted was just swap out the forend entirely for a RPP M-lok handguard which gave me all kinds of options. Once I did that, and got the light set up with a tape switch the way I wanted, I figured I may as well throw one of their sweet quivers on it, since I now had the room for it....and then one thing led to another. It's an absolute blast to shoot, and the brake does a nice job with hotter rounds. RPP makes excellent quality stuff.
