newbie question- will cerakote affect a guns plastic/metal frame or is the effect neglible?
Cerakote has no negative effect on plastic or metal in terms of chemical interaction that I'm aware of. Applied correctly -- always the fundamental question -- it's incredibly thin and reasonably abrasion resistant; its best features are corrosion resistance, and ease of stripping and reapplying comparatively inexpensively when needed.

There is near-negligible dimensional change to the firearm after its application -- again, when done correctly -- and should have next to no impact therefore on the firearm's function. Sometimes you'll need to run a magazine or two to burnish certain freshly Cerakoted contact spots (rails, etc.) to ensure full firearm reliability.

Most disappointing stories you hear about Cerakote are the result of bad application by people who have no business doing it -- then you can see quick abrasive wear, chipping and flaking, and in instances of severe over application, thorny reliability issues where the action is gummed up by excessive coating.

This is the best mod I ever made to a J frame after reading about it on another site.

Just some vet wrap and a LimbSaver on the backstrap. (LimbSaver and vet wrap are available on amazon.)

This gun has never felt so comfortable in hand, even with the nice grips I replaced the OEMs with. So simple, but so nice.

130gr +P Winchester RA38B, Ranger Bonded in mine.

But I've considered switching to wadcutters...which I've never used for anything but training in the past. (Currently I train with 130 grain AE 38K from American Eagle.)

There'll come a time when J frames and +P won't feel as acceptable as they once did, especially in the 642-1. The steel model 36 was more forgiving.

Bought myself a 54th birthday present today. 😋 SIG P229 Legion MOS in 9mm. Not sure which optics I’ll run on it yet. I gifted my P229 Extreme to one of my sons and had to fill the void. This one does the trick.

When I had a p229 legion SAO mine came with the sig optic which didn’t need a plate and was a pretty nice optic for my eyes.
