Before my wife and I purchased the home we are now living in, we lived in an apartment complex where one of our neighbors had three cats.

Max was one of those three and he took a liking to my wife. He would walk with her from our front door to her car when she would leave for work at 4:45 in the morning. He also would escort her from the car to our door when she got home. Our lawn furniture became his and the balcony at our apartment became his second home.

It was not uncommon to find dead birds and grasshoppers on our doorstep when we got home or opened the door first thing in the morning. This bothered my wife but, I found it amusing because of the belief that these were "gifts" from Max to my wife. Max was providing for a loved one.

I planted catnip in a planter box one year and we quickly found out that fresh catnip had a huge effect on Max. Even to the point that he would just sit there, stoned out of his mind after he had trashed the plants. I lost count how many times I had to re-plant those flowers.

I remember coming home one time to find Max relaxing on our kitchen table and my cat Jace standing guard between him and the refrigerator. How Max got inside the apartment is still a mystery to me.

When we bought our home, Max became an issue because of all the time he spent with us instead of his propper owner, JB. JB had no problem with us adopting Max but, my wife felt that it would not be fair to Max or the indoor cats we already owned.

The solution was to leave Max behind with the hopes and prayers that he would adjust to our moving away and that he would be watched over and cared for. Prayers were answered when Max took a liking to the new apartment tenant. She adopted Max with JB's approval.

It has been said that no one ever truly adopts a cat but that a cat picks his/her owner. This was certainly true with one grey tuxedo cat named Max.

Our dear Rudy - quite a few years ago. Few pets have compared to this old guy for companionability and an easy going demeanor. Took 14 years, of his 20, to settle down  :) but throughout, he was a great friend and source of fun stories. We miss him, as I never would have expected. This above was a Christmas card that still finds its way into the light every year.

Cheers. Ray
Beautiful cat, fantastic picture. Well worth framing.

He's an indoor only cat. Never goes outside. Not sure how he got hold of a snake and brought it into the house (In December no less). I'm guessing it crawled through a gap in the garage and he found it out there.
Didn't try to eat it but he was very proud of it.
