Do you have any dealbreakers?

Deal breakers are few and far between for me...but there are some...

Slip joint folders with either too weak or too strong of a back-spring.
Knives that are uncomfortable in my grip.
Swiss Army Knives or multi-tools without scissors.
Knives made in countries that are working against the United States.
Knives that have tacky or garish logos or text on them.
Knives with names that I would be embarrassed to utter.
Knives made by unethical or shady people or businesses.
"Sharpened pry bars".

-cheap steel. I’m ok with AUS-8 at the low end.
-fit & finish below the price point.
-China (PRC) made. It’s not a quality issue; it’s an economic-political one.

Turn-offs that I might consider on rare occasion:
-recurve
-folders much over 5 oz.
-coated blades

i used to be anti-tanto. But IF they are done correctly they can be pretty great.

- Assisted opening
- Recurve
- Folders that can’t be open and shut with one hand

These make me stop pretty much immediately:
Recurves
Bad actors in the industry
Anything priced at MAP
Mainland China

It takes other compelling features/materials for me to buy:
liner locks
frame locks
metal handles
lower tier stainless.

Flippers and assisted don't enter my decision process, don't particularly care either way. They're usually frame or liner locks, that's what pumps the brakes. I have owned plenty of heavy knives and thick blades. I don't want any more, but I'll still read up on them.

Scandi grind
Black blades
Thumbdisks
Aluminum handles
Recurves
Serrations (for the most part)

All dealbreakers.

Too thick of a bladestock on folding knives
Tiny sharpening choils causing the ricasso to be nicked when sharpened
Recurve blades or bladesbelow 3.3 inches

My current deal breakers :

- Flippers
- Chisel Grinds
- Plastic Handles
- Anything below 154CM

Made in China, tantos, recurves, excessively thick blades, acrylic scales, fantasy shaped handles, and overly priced knives.

In not particular order

1. Carbon Steel
2. Made in != USA, Germany, Italy, or Japan*
3. I cannot work it left handed ie standard compression lock
4. Assisted Open

*Some exceptions to #2 they mostly a case by case basis

My current deal breakers :

- Flippers
- Chisel Grinds
- Plastic Handles
- Anything below 154CM

I’m with you about the steel. I do like Sandvik 14C28N though.

Yesterday my wife and I went to a gun show and one of the exhibitors had some beautiful Kershaw knives that were half way reasonable in price.

Unfortunately they weren’t made out of very good steel. Needless to say, I don’t own one.
