EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Was bored last night and decided to get rid of all of the orange and black on one of my Crooked River's. De-anodized the orange off of the pivot collars, polished the pivot itself, satin hardware and replaced the orange backspacer with titanium standoffs. Titanium thumbstuds. And a satin deep carry clip of course. This will be a great pocket carry today.

The next time I find a good candidate axe head that needs some TLC and hung, I'll send it your way!

I don't have the pictures anymore, but one of my best axes was the one in the worst shape when I got it. Massive chunks taken out of the bit, mushroomed poll, rust, the old handle felt like it was concreted into the eye, etc.
Using basic tools I was able to clean her up, repair the bit, square the poll, and hung her. She's not a splitting axe, but she splits wood like a demon. Not the best chopper anymore, I'm sure because of how far I had to take the bit - but she's a workhorse!

That would be cool! I imagine shipping would cost a small fortune!

I don’t know jack about axes.
Is there something like Axes 101?
I need to start learning somewhere.

What I do know is that I don’t want a hatchet. I am thinking a small forest axe will meet my needs. I have a Sven Saw and a D handle shovel for in my Jeep Cherokee. I just want an axe to finish out the set. Something for when I am out camping.

I envy your skills to hang an axe.
I like doing stuff with my hands and think there would be a lot of personal satisfaction in something like that.

Happy New Year.

Hey brother, I have to make this quick.

For a Jeep axe, honestly I recommend a Fiskars 28". I had one, it was a great axe. I still have the Fiskars hatchet. The steel is soft, and easy to keep hair shaving sharp. They are very much tools, and not something that is beautiful to look at.

Anyway with that said, Husqvarna used to make a 28" axe that I carried in my truck for years. It sits in the gun safe now because it has sentimental value to me at this point.
I'm veering off track, but my point was this: I bought that axe for $60, and it was worth every penny.
If you have the coin, then by all means, step up to a Hultafors or a Hults Bruks. I love those axes, but my $60 Husqvarna cuts just as well (it was made by the same company, it just isn't finished nearly as nicely)

Lastly, I don't have the best skills in axe hanging, I assure you! I have messed up a lot. I have one axe that I had to hang three times to finally get "the hang of it".

Restoring axes is fun and rewarding. Axes are some of man kinds oldest known tools.

I'll try and snap a picture of a couple of my restores!

Also, what state do you live in?

Edit for pictures.

This first one was my trouble child. She would not take to a full length handle. She cut like a laser with one, though. I ended up putting her on this 17" handle. She took to it. The head is light enough for the handle. She's an amazing hatchet.
An online friend from Canada sent me this one. He cut the head and thinned the cheeks - so this one isn't a restore job for me, all I did was hang it.

This next one is bitter sweet to me. When it was given to me, it was rust over blue. Seeing the blue paint, I got excited - I thought maybe I found a Swede!
Once cleaned up, I seen the "China" stamp. I was let down.
However, and I hate to say this, but this axe is my best chopper, by far.
The heat treat is ruined, largely my fault. I couldn't get the old, hardened hickory out of the eye. I ended up losing my temper and I threw it on a fire to burn the wood out.
It gets sharp, and easily, but it won't take a fine edge, and won't hold it for long at all. But you should see the large chips she throws!!

View attachment 1483380 Been debating selling this one for quite some time. Figured I’d carry it and see. Haven’t carried a small in a very long time. It never made it in to the rotation

I feel ya, I got a PJ small Inkosi (my first CRK) that I can’t seem to let go lol. Even though I rarely carry it.

Just got this 0308 in with aftermarket CF scales and it’s bringing back some good ol ZT memories :D

Happy New Year yall!

Even though it's not real CB, I though the black looked better.

I agree. I've tried ordering it several times since the day started and Spartan Blades is making it difficult. Something going on with their website. Can't complete the checkout process,
