While waiting for my daughter to come home from training, I took a walk around the area.

According to legend, it was at this place that the courier caught up with Catherine the Great's carriage and reported the victory of the Russian fleet under the command of Admiral Spiridonov in the Battle of Chesme over the Ottoman fleet, which was twice as large.
This key naval victory in the Second Peloponnesian War cut off the Ottoman supply lines in Greece and Italy and blocked the Dardanelles.
And here, for two years, the front line of World War II passed.
The castle and the pillboxes around were one of the strong points of the defense of Leningrad.
