You lucky dog, great find. A rifle ahead of its time. As a young man I passed on this rifle because of the plastic furniture. Big mistake. I always wished that Remington would re-release this. Nowadays they would probably just screw it up.
I think so too. I also passed on this rifle years ago. Always wanted the Nylon 76 (lever action version), but it never happened. Doesn't bother me that I don't own one. I bought a Marlin 39A as my classic lever action 22. It's still un-scoped.You lucky dog, great find. A rifle ahead of its time. As a young man I passed on this rifle because of the plastic furniture. I have a Marlin model 60 that has been rock solid reliable and accurate (relative to a .22) for many years. Bought it at a KMart for $50 way back when. Roundcount has to be in the 30k range I would guess. Still humming, but I clean it and take care of it.
I also have a Colt .22 pistol - made in 93 - they only made them for a couple of years.

Marlin 60, what a classic. When I was younger there were always a couple of 60s in the group when shooting with my buddies. I've always considered it an everyman's rifle like the Ruger 10/22.I have a Marlin model 60 that has been rock solid reliable and accurate (relative to a .22) for many years. Nice Standard. When I was 16, a friend's father let us shoot his pair of MK 1's and I was hooked for life. I practically ran to the local gun shop and traded a Colt .45 for a MK II 5 1/2" bull barrel and a MK II Target.Ruger Standard

Those are some some nice groups. I can't see that good any more Have to use a scope to get them that small now.Accuracy "relative to a .22"? I'll not own a .22LR, or any other firearm, that's not accurate. Most .22LR rifles are more accurate than most shooters are capable of.
With .22LR rifles, I leave them fouled and don't clean them until they malfunction.
I also don't clean mine generally until I have a problem. The only one I clean regularly is the TC Lynx. It has a tight chamber and gets fouled pretty easilyAccuracy "relative to a .22"? I hope they are fond memories for you. Did the same primarily with my brothers. We spent a great deal of time in the woods as we lived in the country, had 200 acres+ to play on, and knew all the neighbors/landowners to we could pretty much do what we liked (without being destructive). The 4 wheelers pretty much ruined it. People started posting their property to keep them out.I spent some of my youth woods walking with my cousin. I with my Remington 512 & he with his Nylon 66.
I received a MK2 Government Target from my now deceased best friend. Have since passed that one on to my son.Nice Standard. Would love to shoot a M17 sometime. Never had the pleasure.
