I almost went a full week in ‘18 without getting out, but I finally talked my self into wading the icy conditions on the 6th.
Here is my very first fish of ‘18. You might need to make sure you are zoomed all the way out to get this monster into frame.

I’ve been out every weekend since. I’ve managed a couple good days, but more often than not the fishing’s been slow.
A slightly larger brown.

Ive been catching some real pretty stocker(possibly hold over) bows as well.

Me and my dad have also locked in a trip to the White and Norfork Rivers in April, and I could not be more stoked!
Gotta dust off the 8wt and start slinging some meat.

Ice fishing for 'bows, land locked silvers, kings and arctic char.

I've been taking kids and friends and friend's kids. That's my home made "Ice Castle" behind us.

The ice is 30 inches thick, it will be a while before we can fish in soft water. Like in April.

I've been vacuum packing them all and am going to smoke them up in the spring.

Inside the house. This one is 24 inches, Travis' second one over 18 inches. Limit is one. This one went back.

Ellie caught the biggest fish today, a 23 inch rainbow.

On this day we got the lake grand slam, Rainbows, Silvers, a King and a Char

The fishing is still good, in these shallow lakes the oxygen level goes down toward spring, and the fishing gets tougher.

They all get filleted and vacuum packed.

The limit is 10, we have been keeping anything over 14 inches. On our best day two of us caught 53 fish and kept 11. This is a put and take fishery, there are no breeders so we don't feel guilty killing the big ones. They are fun to catch and very good to eat. My biggest this season was 28 inches and 7 pounds. This is me in this picture, I am the photographer in most of them.

My first fishing trip of the year, solo - friend had to bail at 5:00 am. Ended up with 18 Sac-a-lait and a few small catfish.

I'm not familiar with those, are they like sunfish or crappie? Look like good eating. It's nice to see someone taking good care of fish. It makes a huge difference when they are put on ice right away.

And the aftermath ...
Fried filets, slaw, candied jalapeño hush puppies, and squash&zucchini.

Some folks just know how to live.

OK, I see the crappie (black crappie), and some others that look like sun fish, those must be the white crappie. Not familiar with Bar fish, What do they look like?

Fished on Sunday with my best fishing buddy, Bessie. We got Rainbows, Char, kings and silvers. I kept the ten biggest and let ten go. Fun.

I caught two more rainbows after I took this picture, was too dark for pictures.

Louisiana, now that you mention it I have heard them called white bass before, but I'd say 99% of the time I've heard them referred to as bar fish here.

Yep, same fish. You've got a lot of good things to catch and eat in Louisiana.
