Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Something has moved the trap in my garage. I'll find it eventually. I'm guessing it was a red squirrel, because that chipmunk trap has always been enough for a chipmunk.

As I live alone, it's easy for me to forget that I have Sleep Apnoea! 😖 I was diagnosed with it about 15 years ago, and used a CPAP machine for a while, but I have a hiatus hernia, and a very bad cough caused by silent reflux, which eventually made it impossible for me to sleep with the machine :(

I don't know much, at least nothing good, about healthcare in your country but sleep apnea is not something to dismiss lightly. There are new options that don't use a CPAP machine to prevent sleep apnea. I think of them being similar to a pacemaker for your heart as they function in a similar way for low oxygen levels and a stimulation to make you breathe (not a doctor so do your own research 🙂).

In my case, I had surgery for Sleep Apnea and it made a huge difference! It took a few months to drink a glass of water and not feel like I was drowning though! 🤣 My surgery was extra aggressive though so, probably a personal issue. I had what is called a UP3 along with a "turbinatectomy" (turbinate reduction) and basically a "nose job" to open up my nostrils. The surgeon suggested doing a light job and then a second surgery if needed but, I told him to do it all in one go! Darn glad I did too because it made such a difference and a follow up surgery wasn't needed. Recovery from surgery wasn't that bad with the tonsillectomy being the worst. Apparently, the throat surgery and "nose job" is something they like to split to make recovery "easier". In retrospect, to me , it just means prolonging the recovery. I should note that I am a person who "just rips the Bandaid off, not a slow gentle pull type of guy" as I want to get it over with as fast as reasonable.

In recovery, the nurse asked if I wanted some Jello and I said not really and she said I should really TRY to eat some! I asked why because I hadn't eaten Jello since I was a youngster. Turns out that eating some Jello reduced swelling in my throat and made post-op recovery much easier even though it was a bit rough initially in post-op trying to 'choke it' down.

After all that, I will restate that looking into "embedded" sleep apnea solutions or a surgery correction is seriously something to discuss with your doctor and your particular situation.

I'm afraid there's not much good to know about it these days Sid 😕 It was a lot better when I rarely needed it! 🤔 Thanks for your help and advice, I'll see if I can get a referral back to the Sleep Clinic. I actually first heard about Sleep Apnea here on The Porch, and realised I was probably a sufferer. My doctor hadn't picked up on the pretty obvious symptoms. It's just as prevalent here as in the US, but not widely known about. I'm glad things are a lot better for you now my friend 👍
Yes indeed! Have a great day dads! 😊👍
Happy Fathers Day Guardians !

I've got Gidget with me today 👍

Gidget is a beauty Steve 😎👍

My wifi is running real slow again, so I'm having to post on my phone 🙄 I'm pleased to report that the crisis is over in the Wolfie household, so long as 'Oliver's name is never mentioned in front of Ripley again! 😉 I've told Wolfie he might want to check there are no old musicals listed in the TV schedules this week! 🤭

Stellar stag Steve

Thanks buddy!

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I didn't get to meet up with Wolfie yesterday, as Ripley, his teenage daughter, had split up with her boyfriend, so he was on "consolation duty". Hopefully, teenage hearts are soon mended :) I did get to meet up with some other friends though, and we had lunch together, and a couple of pints. I have a couple of work meetings later, but no plans until then, even though the housework is calling  ;) Carrying this rare one today. Have a wonderful Sunday Guardians

Thanks again pal !

Man... is it me or do others think that because Stag is such a fantastic Handle choice that these Wood versions are over looked somewhat, this is one superb looking Knife!!

If I remember correctly, there were more stag HHBs made than rosewood, so there aren’t as many of the wood examples out there. (Jack would have to comment on the exact quantities, but I think there were only around 20 of the rosewood.)

I chose the rosewood when Jack first offered them up, and was glad that I did. I really love it. (Thankfully I did end up with a stag example as well, from a GAW that Jack hosted a few years back.)

Here’s a pic of the pile side of my rosewood HHB, which I haven’t photographed nearly as often as the mark side. The knot, or inclusion, whatever you might call it, is part of what I like about the knife — a nice bit of added character.

I happened to have that knife with me yesterday. Snapped a quick pic when Julie and I went out for burgers.

Looks yummy! Typically, at least where I go, the "veggie" Sushi typically has 2 or 3 things in it. Avocado, something with crunch (carrots, Jicama, and similar), and something sweet or savory. A few with Cream Cheese are really good too, especially with something spicy!

It’s been a year since I started having major health problems. I’ve had high blood pressure for years and used medication to control it. Last June I was diagnosed with renal failure after collapsing at home and taken to the emergency room. Fifty years of hard living had finally caught up with me. As I lay in the hospital bed a doctor told me that they might be able to save my life. My brother is a board certified emergency room doctor and told me that I was lucky they were able to save me he and said that I was, “Circling the drain”. In one night in the hospital I quit smoking and drinking cold turkey. Fast forward to the end of July my brother came to visit me and one of the first things he did was listen to my heart and said that he believed that I had Afib and took me to the hospital where they did an EKG and my heart was beating 180 BPM. I was immediately admitted to the hospital. Funny thing was I was asymptomatic. They were able to with medication get my heart back in rhythm. After spending a week in the hospital I was released. Every thing seemed normal until after a routine blood test my primary care physician told me that I had a UTI and stated me on antibiotics. I seemed to improve for several days but it kept getting worse again. For the next several weeks they kept trying different antibiotics and nothing worked. I was pissing needles in the meantime. In early November of last year my urologist scheduled a CAT scan. The night before I collapsed and was rushed to the emergency room and admitted so they could do the scan the next day. After the procedure I was taken back to my room and there was a surgeon there who told me that I needed emergency surgery and I asked when and she said RIGHT NOW! Turns out I had the worst case of diverticulitis she had ever seen and without surgery I was hours away from septic shock and most likely as @Modoc ED would say take the long dirt nap. After five hours of surgery they removed six inches of my colon. I recovered but ended up with a colostomy bag. Two weeks ago my surgeon did a reverse ostomy and removed the stoma so I can now have normal bowel functions. Finally I also do not have high blood pressure anymore! It’s amazing what quitting smoking and drinking plus losing ninety pounds can do for one’s health. I now cherish every day and couldn’t have done it without the help of my beautiful bride who took our wedding vows to take me in sickness and health seriously.🙏

Cheers, Dan

Wow, you have had quite a health adventure. I thought my my wife had it bad, but you might have her beat. Here’s to continued improvement.

Happy Father’s Day, Guardians! This is a re-posted photo but I’m sharing again because this is a special time for our whole family: I will be wearing my dad’s old Omega watch to my eldest daughter’s wedding next weekend. She is my first to marry and first granddaughter from both sides so there will be a number of 80 and 70-year olds in the procession! 💍💒👰🏼

My apologies for missing Duncan's post. There were considerably more stag models made than Rosewood ones, I think the final tally was 77 to 21. Partly this was because I knew Wright's had some decent vintage Sambar, which wouldn't last (as I later discovered, they schtupped me on that, as had I seen some of the stag models I would certainly have rejected them). I did try to get an Ebony Hartshead Barlow made, but the sample was so appalling, I knew the firm could not be trusted to make them 🤨

I WAS surprised by the popularity of the Rosewood models as a first choice, and struggled to make sure everyone got what they wanted. I could certainly have done with a few more. That's a nice one Barrett :) And what a feast! 😋 I had a burger for lunch, but it didn't look THAT good! 😁

Thanks Sid, that is just from the supermarket, but it's not bad :) Usually there's a couple of avocado rolls too, but they had me over! ;)
