Home Built Surface Grinder

Ok, so a 2 arm dealio. Is that because it is too bulky to be supported by just 1? Mine looks like its gonna come in around 35 pounds with hardware and everything. Would it be possible to get some pictures of how that was all mounted, and the step downs on the arms?
I use 2 arms because it makes it much more rigid. Rigidity is king in something like an SGA and for that same reason I don't think you should worry about weight too much. As long as you can physically take it in and out of the grinder, the added weight will only help it behave better. I will try to get some pictures later on.

OK, good to know. I was thinking of keeping it 1-arm, just so I would be able to turn it 45 if I needed to, but if 2 arms is really the way to go, I can do that. I did manage to shave off half an inch from that offset, so it won't be as bad as before. I am a little in the broke student department at the moment, so remaking this thing is probably not going to be possible if it's not up to par on the first go.

I am the only grinder manufacturer that uses a total of 3 tool arms on their SGA that I am aware of. If you can only use 1 arm to support the SGA and a second to mount the wheel, for whatever reason, you will probably be ok. Send me an email, I can probably help you out with some parts I have laying around.
