Keep it Alive in 2025

GEC are just getting too expensive, unless it’s something that I must have I don’t buy them anymore. The 23 and 24 fitted into the latter category for me. The only GEC I bought last year were Charlie’s SFO’s. This year a couple of club knives.

I for one wish they would do something other than GEC or at least a cheaper model chosen by Charlie. Somehow I get the feeling Spark would rather never do another forum knife before admit this years knife was a mistake.

That Buck story is very sad, but sadly all to common.

How does everyone get a chance at a Charlie SFO, but I have never seen on for sale outside of flippers? And those were few and far between.

I remember a certain faction bellyaching because it wasn't worthy of being a Bladeforums annual knife because it wasn't made by GEC. Then when it was ordering time out came the gatekeepers who tried to keep these inferior knives out of the hands of the undeserving. Then when the knives started arriving we had a handful of experts harrumphing over every aspect of a $80 knife as if it was a $400 knife bought from a well respected flipper.

I remember that knife being a well received success by the vast majority of purchasers. Mine is a gem.

I guess we all remember differently.
Well mine was complete junk, that was sent back to Buck and came back, wait for it, complete junk. Gappy liners and weak springs combined with some of the ugliest elk covers ever seen.

I must have chucked in in the trash because I can't seem to find it. I'm certainly thankful we haven't had to have another one like that.

So yeah, I guess we all do remember it differently.

The archaic definition of egregious is; ‘ remarkably good’. By definition I will agree with you. Buck represents the best quality for the money you can get.

Define it any way you wish. Maybe I was one of the chosen who received two crappy (search that) specimens. I kept the one with that had a concave side because the gaps weren't as bad as the one with symmetrical sides, which I returned because the daylight coming through the handles was blinding. Buck did a fair job of fixing it.

While we are on topic, the Northwoods BF knife from many years back was the worst knife I ever purchased. I can't remember the year, but it is a three blade with stag (I believe) scales. Ther were burn spots on the blade, crappy snap and the shield fell out after minor handling. It was so bad I never carried or cut anything with it.

Best of luck to this year's customers.

That was the 2008 Forum Knife, the first I bought. Shocked that your shield fell out, they were pinned  It was a small knife based on the Queen Cutlery No.26 Small Stockman and in those days numbers were low.

Every FK I've heard about has always had some disgruntled customers, sometimes this was an aftermath of people losing out on polling, but all of us have had knives in our lives we looked forward to only to be disappointed on getting them. This incudes Custom knives or currently highly appreciated knives SFOs etc and we should hear a spectrum of views. My Buck 2018 Forum Knives not only very satisfying but also get used a lot, I understand others don't feel this way but it does not make the run terrible or rubbish. Last year's knife was evidently a slow seller and I have to say I've never seen so many re-dyed examples compared to all other Forum Knives put together. I was not interested in the offering and with 27.5% import tax to the EU it was far too expensive for my pocket and just unremarkable otherwise. Other people have enjoyed theirs and seem well pleased.

Somehow, I don't think there will be a 2025 knife unless a revolution of some sort takes place, who knows?

As long as it is in Magnamax.... :)
And. . . . they're off!!!
Six blades!! Cast Concrete handles!! With zebra stripes!!! Plus a bottle opener, ooh, ooh, and a cigar trimmer!! A personalized seal cap!!
Matching lanyard tubes at each end!! A comb and a pickle fork!! An extending magnet for picking things up!!! 😂 🤣 😂 🤣

I never thought I would feel this way, but an Opinel number 8 in Ebony would actually be a very nice choice. Simple, inexpensive, attractive, and useful. The Forum Knife is hanging by a thread. Maybe something nice and simple could at least give us one more year. The financial outlay would be more manageable. Perhaps things will settle down a bit, and we can get back on track the following year. Spark probably will not want to get involved, so someone else will have to step into the breach.

Of course the best case scenario would be for you Charlie to speak with GEC and work something out on our behalf. I know for a fact we would not get something like this year’s knife! The problem would be who would handle the financing and logistics? That could only be accomplished by someone like Barry gunstockjack gunstockjack or Mike knifeswapper knifeswapper . We can only hope that private conversations are being had!

Thanks for the faith in us, Greg!! I have financed a couple, and Barry has labored for very little!! It's time for someone else to step up, and talk to Spark!!

I'm not over the top about the bladeforums knife being an opinel but if it has to be to have the tradition continue i would prefer it was in ebony, that said I would prefer that the gec and bf forum knife tradition continued.im not sure where this goes but I wouldn't want to be in sparks shoes with the work that he has put in and to find himself in this predicament.i have a question does spark order the bf forum knife based on pre orders if so how did so many more get purchased then needed.maybe in the future the bf knife has to be made in 2 batches if gec agrees.
